| Does Wellness food need glucosomine supplements? I was told that since Wellness does not make a large breed puppy formula that I should give glucosomine supplements, which I started doing. Recently my almost 4 month old has gotten very clumsy and awkward. I thought it was just from his growing but could it be from the supplements? Any ideas out there on this. |

| Re: Does Wellness food need glucosomine supplements? I don't think there is a reason to supplement your puppy's diet unless there is a reason for it, as recommended by your vet. I started Bessy on glucosamine supplements when she was 6 months old, but only because she was diagnosed and X-rayed as having early signs of hip dysplasia. My vet recommended a daily dosage of glucosamine for Bessy. Is there a reason that you want to start your pup on supplements? Also, do a check on the forums to read about why its OK to feed your pup an adult formula. |

| Re: Does Wellness food need glucosomine supplements? Too much supplements can cause harm or make them grow too fast. Not sure about Glucosomine; I never gave Nisha any supplements tho, and she is fine. As far as the clumsy part goes....totally normal. Nisha was the so clumsy when she was that age. Your boy is still trying to figure out his body .

| Re: Does Wellness food need glucosomine supplements? thanks for the info -- I just give him a half each day. Did you feed your puppy adult food? Glad to hear the clumsiness is normal -- my vet said I should think about getting an xray if it doesn't get better in a few months. |

| Re: Does Wellness food need glucosomine supplements? Wellness must have just released large breed puppy, because I found it when I brought my Ty home two weeks ago (he's 10 wks now). I couldn't find it at Pet Supermarket and PetSmart doesn't carry Wellness, so I ordered it from petfooddirect.com. If your local store can order however, I'd suggest that instead - pfd.com seems to take their time in getting it to you. I'm going to ask Pet Supermkt to order for me next time around. |

| Re: Does Wellness food need glucosomine supplements? The point bessy senior is making is that you do not need to feed "large breed puppy" food. Many premium foods are good for both pups and adults. Do a search on large breed puppy food here, or go into the Nutrition forum (as well as puppy development) there's lots to read on this issue.
