What else are you feeding besides the Canidae? Any training treats, marrow bones, bully sticks, greenies, rawhides, dog biquits, leftovers, fruits, toast, pizza crust, etc???

If your pup is eating any of the above...try eliminating them for a week...and see what happens.

If you are not feeding anything besides the food...try adding in a tablespoon of natural plain yogurt once a day to the food and see if that helps.

Is your pup eating grass right now? Fresh grass tends to make them gassy also.

If all else fails, change the food...if you are feeding the Canidae ALS, try feeding the Canidae Chicken & Rice.

Re: help with gas

The yogurt MUST have active cultures, or you will just be feeding yogurt for nothing. Plain...because your dog does not need artificial flavoring. Just a rounded teaspoon, or tablespoon per day should help a little. Try it for a while (actually the rest of your dog's life), and keep us informed. It may take a while to see (or smell) improvement.

I also use gas-x with my gassy guys. They have times when they are gassier than others and a gas-x really helps. I also give yogurt often. You can substitute a good probiotic (the refrigerated people type) if you don't usually have yogurt available or if your pup doesn't handle dairy products well.

The All Life Stages has chicken in it, doesn't it? Is it possible that you are over feeding? Over feeding does cause gas and sometimes very loose stools.

Re: help with gas

so how much should i feed him. my other dog is fine. she doesnt have any troubles with loose poo or gas or n e hting, the other problem we would have is seperate them when fed. im not a big fan of timed feeding. i put two bowls out and let them decide when they want to eat.

That's probably your problem right there. You have two dogs that you free feed? Not a good idea. With one dog you may be able to get away with it, for two or more....one may be grazing all day or start guarding the bowl, or just over eat.
The amount they eat depends on their age, their size, and their activity level.
Start feeding them twice a day...in the a.m. put 1 cup in each bowl...see how fast they clean it up. If they don't finish it...pick up the bowl till the evening meal.
I would imagine 3 cups per dog per day would be enough, or maybe less? depending on your dogs?

If they have food available all of the time, they really don't have to work for their food. Do you do any training? Hungry dogs train great with food rewards.

Re: help with gas

I'm confused because you say that the dog itched a lot when you were feeding chicken but the Canidae ALS has chicken as one of the main protein sources. Is the dog still itching? If not, then I would follow Gina's advice to the T.
If the dog is still itching and having a lot of gas. I would switch to another protein.
Good Luck

Re: help with gas

There is a product called dogzymes, which is a powder mix of different types of probiotics, that I get from natures farmacy. My dog has a somewhat sensitive tummy and I have used this for over a year. He also eats the Canidae lamb meal and rice formula, I give him a scoop of this with each meal, which he gets twice a day. He weighs about 95 lbs and he gets 3 1/2 cups of food daily split into two meals. If I free fed him, I'm afraid he would be farting and pooping constantly.
He was pretty gassy when I got him, and had mushy poo, but after settling on his current food an using the dogzymes daily his tummy has been great.
