Jus wondering what you guys give as supplement (as tabs), Ive been giving Pet Tabs cus it was cheap, but no improvement, like a waste of money. I would like to improve his coat most of all, he is constantly itching.

Re: What do you give as supplement?

if he is in a good quality food, there is no real need for pet tabs.
i do add fatty acids to food such as fish oil caps to help with coat.
i also add vitamin c, e and glucosamine to my working/older dogs.

have you checked for fleas?ticks?

apart from those, allergies and dry skin can cause the itchies. allergies can come from anything from food to environment-such as what you use to clean, or bathe him in.

Re: What do you give as supplement?

My guy was itchy up until I started him on flea medicine. I never had seen a flea on him and really thought that he just had itchy skin, but once I had put frontline on he was itch free, literally the next day.

I also supplement food with fish oil and have been giving glucosamine because my dog is showing signs of having painful joints. I would only give glucosamine if your dog is older and has arthritis or other joint problems, or a dog who works heavily and you need extra supplements to maintain the joints. The fish oil is a definite ok though for pretty much any dog to help maintain a shiny coat!

Re: What do you give as supplement?

Supplements imply something is missing from the diet. It makes more sense to me to feed a good diet in the first place, thus making supplements unnecessary from the get-go.

Re: What do you give as supplement?

Okay, he is on flea and tick, hes okay there. I give him Pro Pack SPORTMIX with mackerel, does this sound like a sufficient diet? It really is the best I can give him, cus where I am there is no Canidae, Innova or anything of the sort. He was better condition when he was getting chicken instead of mackerel, but it aint easy to cook the food and store it. He is also on fish oil, but anyway I was just curious about supplements, guess they arent that necessary. Thanks.

Great can you give me the specific names of these supplements, I THINK the tabs I have been giving have caused excessive (and annoying) hair growth.

Hey Zumie. Just checking in on u and your pup. How is the limp? My guy just recently started getting the limp back and his trainer gave me a little sample of glucosamine to see if that helps. My question is, that I'm sure a pet store is going to charge an arm and a leg for it, so I was wondering if I could use the ones u can get at the grocery. The ingrediets differ somewhat though. I am only using the sample one for now to see how it works.

My guy never shows signs of pain, but u can see the limp. Even my neighbour noticed it, and he is not even a big fan of dogs. I've cut down the amount of food to only 2 cups to 2.5 cups a day in total, and the exercise.......well, we were recently up to the 30 minute walks, but I think i'll cut it back down to 20 tops....for the next little while.

So is it okay to give the grocery glucosamine, or do you think the formulation for pets is different? I noticed some ingredient in the grocery one.....cat's claw.....that's not in the list of ingredients i have in the sample one i got, and there was quite a large amount of it from what i remember in the grocery one.

Aside from that, the pup is doing well. we're 9.5 months old now, and still full of energy! My trainer still thinks it's hilarious when my pup gets the zooooooooomies! I do too, but he did it the other night when my friend was over, and she and froze herself on the couch, while my pup did laps around the living room......including the hop onto.... and off the couch.
