Innova, how much to feed?

Hi. I just bought a bag of Innova adult dry dog food and I was wondering how much to feed my rott. The feeding chart is a little confusing. My rott was born in january this year and he weighs 32lbs.

Innova is a very calorie rich food...there are 557 calories per cup. I would think 2 cups per day would be enough for your puppy for now. ..divided into 3 feedings. If he is looking too thin, then up the food by 1/2 cup. As he grows add a bit more food.

Slow steady growth is the best for your puppy.

Re: Innova, how much to feed?

Today, before reading this I fed him 4 cups, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. I went to the innova website and they have a feeding calculator there and after entering the information it asks of my dog it says to feed 3.8 cups. That's why i just rounded it out to 4cups. Should I really only feed him 2 cups per day? Also, I could only feed him twice a day due to my work schedule.

Re: Innova, how much to feed?

I can't remember back to puppyhood, but my biggest adult only gets 3 cups a day spread over 2 meals. I agree with Gina that 2 cups spread into 3 meals is probably about right. It may be even a bit much since your pup is only 4 months? To much food can produce loose stools. Innova is a great food and you will get the nutrition in 1 cup that you would get in 6 cups say of Purnia or Petagree. The pup if fed the right amount will grow slow and sure, you don't want to rush the growth. They should act eager for their next meal. They will try to con you into overfeeding, if they can.

If your work schedule had you away at the time of the second feeding, try packing a Kong with that meal so he can pick during the day.

That's way too much food for a small puppy...2,100 calories is too much food.
The back of the bag always seems like way too much...they want to sell more food...so the recommendations are always fairly high. I would not feed more then 2 to 21/2 cups per day to this pup...and never even when full grown more then 4 cups in total per day.

Most Rottweilers are 'easy keepers'...meaning that they do not need as many calories as some breeds and tend to put weight on easily.

Re: Innova, how much to feed?

how much did you feed of his prior food?

Start with 2/3 of whatever that was and keep an eye on his weight and his front wrist "bumps" if he starts to get chunky or if his wrists become warmer than the rest of the leg cut him back

You should be able to lay your hand on him and feel but not see his ribs and back

Re: Innova, how much to feed?

I feed both my dogs Innova. One is 4 and one is 1 1/2. I've been feeding them 4 cups a day, 2 in the morning and 2 at night. The 4 yr old has maintained her weight and the 1 1/2 year old has been slowly adding weight. The 4 cups per day seems to work perfect for them.
