Not interested in Nature's Variety? Thor was previously eating Canidae from about 5 months to 9 months, and he was a MAJOR food hound. I switched him to Nature's Variety Prairie, mostly for rotation, and because I like the fact that I can rotate within the same brand without gradual changes. Problem is, he's not a big fan of it. He only eats when he's really hungry. He has no problems skipping breakfast, and sometimes lunch even. He usually eats dinner. I still feed him 3 times a day because he comes to work with me, so it's convenient. He gets about 1 1/4 cups per feeding. I have tried chicken, and now beef, and his reation didn't change. He just looks at me like I'm the bad guy. Could it just be that he doesn't like it? Or is he maybe growing out of the food hound stage? He's 10 months now. Should I be worried? He's perfectly normal otherwise.

Re: Not interested in Nature's Variety? He might just not like it. Maybe try mixing a little something in with it? Some raw meat, sardines, or cottage cheese. Or maybe adding a little bit of low sodium broth. My 2 1/2 year old boy, Beau, has a preference of certain brands. In general though, he isn't a huge fan of just dry kibble. He has some gas issues, so I stir in some non fat yogurt and that seems to make him slurp it up.

Re: Not interested in Nature's Variety? You can rotate amongst brands without gradual changes too. I do it all the time as do many others here. Aside from that, if he's not liking NV, then try another brand. You can add yogurt, eggs, plain pumpkin, sardines, etc to the NV in order to use it up and then try Innova or some other brand. Or, just go back to the Canidae.

Re: Not interested in Nature's Variety? I would just try another brand or switch back if the dog was doing well on Canidae. I do hear lots of people doing rotations, but my dog had a really sensitive tummy when I got him and I think I will just keep on feeding what he does well with. He gets enough other stuff during the day for treats that I doubt he will get bored with his food. he is ALWAYS excited when I say let's eat.

Re: Not interested in Nature's Variety? We tried switching our dog to Canidae from life's abundance and he was the same way. He really only ate it when he was really hungry. Last night I gave in and gave him the Life's abundance which he woofed down like he hadnt eaten in a week. I am going to try Wellness next.

Re: Not interested in Nature's Variety? It's just sorta weird, ya know? I mean, this dog happily eats broccoli, for crying out loud! It's definately a good food, and he's definately a food hound. The Canidae was good for him, but his stool could have been firmer, and less plentiful on it, so I thought I'd experiment a little. Hmm, guess I'm food shopping again..

Re: Not interested in Nature's Variety? My last girl I started on Canidae and had the same problem with her stools....not runny, but kind of "sticky" I guess you could say. I had good luck with Innova and California Natural, and when she had her "picky" days I would add a little canned food, cottage cheese or plain yogurt with her kibble and she would gobble it right up ![]()
