Lightbulb My pup seems to be hungry alot.

I have a 9 week old rotti and I feed him 3x a day as per the package on the dog food. But it seems like he's looking for food. He goes to his bowls looking for food. I also notice that he seems to be thirsty alot. Is this a concern? Can any roundworms make a puppy hungry often? We're heading to the vet tomorrow, but I would like to hear from u guys to see if anyone has gone through this with their pup.

Yes, worms will make him hungry. The worms are taking out the nutrition from the food...and leaving him with little.

What kind of food are you feeding? I would also suggest once puppy is fed, to put the bowl away...so there is no hanging around the bowl.

Most Rottweilers are always starving....I've never had one that thought they've had enough. You want slow, steady growth and the way to do that is to measure out their food.

Exclamation Re: My pup seems to be hungry alot.

We went to the vet this morning he has coccidia. I've noticed why he seems to be hungry. I have been feeding a 1/3 cup of food for him, I suppose to give him 2/3 cup. I will start giving him the recommended amount from now on. He also will be starting his deworming tomorrow and I started him on Advantix today, since we found a tick and removed it yesterday and took it to the vet. Thank goodness it wasn't a deer tick.

Thanks again.

I feel more relieved now.

Coccidae is a protozoa that is very common in puppies and kittens. They usually get it from birds or wild life that has traveled over or though the soil.

Puppies can also get from eating their own poop, that's how Spawn got his. He could've also seen his mother doing it when he was younger. It is very common in puppies. When I first got him he did that when he had his accident in the house, now I keep him away from it once he's outside and pick it up and throw it out right away. Here is a link where you can read about it.

Coccidia (Coccidiosis) in Dogs: A Cause of Diarrhea

Sorry, new to this, so I really don't know how to post a link yet.

Re: My pup seems to be hungry alot.

My puppy was very thirsty, drinking way more than I ever thought a puppy could or even should drink. Turns out he had giardia. Did the vet also check for this?

Yes she did. I think the medication he's on is making his thirsty, since it does say he needs to drink more water because it can cause dehydration.
