Talking Ears itching

Gypsy has had an ongoing problem with ear mites in one ear. she has had treatment for the last 2 months and wears advantage plus for fleas and to keep the mites from crawling. I was wondering if I should have her ears flushed and then treat them. has any one had this problem. also on different subject: she is eating alot of grass in the last week and her gas smells terrible and her stool is not totally solid. she was spayed 2 weeks ago could the stuff they put her to sleep with affect her tummy at this time.

Something is not digesting well in her tummy if she is eating grass and gassy.
You said you have her on a new food? What are the first 5 ingredients? It could be one of the proteins that is bothering her? or a grain or carb.
You could also give her a good tablespoon of plain , natural yogurt on her food once a day...it may help with the gas.

As far as the ear mites...I've usually worked on stray cats that had ear mites...and got rid of them by using olive oil. Put a few drops in every day and clean the ears. The oil smothers the mites. It often takes a few weeks of cleaning every day...but you do get rid of them. Some people use mineral oil, or baby oil...but olive oil works good too.

Did your vet not give you medication for the ear mites?

hey gina, she's been on the food for about a month now, just since spaying she has been eating the grass and yes the vet gave her ear stuff but he said just keep using it. I will try your idea. should I use it with her ear drops from the vet. I will get back to you on the food ingredients but I dont think it's that. she just hasnt been herself for about a week no vomiting or any other related symptoms. could it be I should not give her people food at all.

Re: Ears itching

I looked up info on Dandelions and apparantly, they are edible for humans, dogs, etc. Who knew?

Is she actually eating the grass?? I know my Beau just likes to pull it out of the ground...

Yeah, I would try the yogurt suggestion, that really helped me with Beau's HORRIBLE gas. I also read somewhere in the forums, if you give a teaspoon of canned pumpkin(make sure it's not the spiced pumpkin pie mix) with their meal, it will help harden their poop. I tried it, and it worked like a charm...
