Help! Food Question.

Does anyone here feed their rottweiler California Natural? Are you happy with it cause it sounds like you should only feed it to overly allergic or food sensitive dogs? Is this food good for all dogs? The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of switching from Canidae ALS to Cal Nat. I have 3 dogs (a rottweiler and 2 mini schnauzers). One of the schnauzers doesn't like the Canidae but the other 2 dogs do. I've got her started on the Cal Nat and she seems to like it. So I was wondering if I should just feed all the dogs Cal Nat instead of getting 2 different brands. I'm worried though that the Cal Nat isn't as good as the Canidae. Is Cal Nat just as good as Canidae? What should I do?

Yes...California Natural is as good as Canidae. I would save using California Natural for the dog that needs it. It's a great food for a dog with a sensitive stomach. The ALS Canidae has 4 different proteins, and while that is great for many dogs, some need only one type of protein in their food.

If your dogs should develop allergies or sensitivity in the future...then start feeding CN. Why do you need all of the dogs on the same food?

Re: Help! Food Question.

The reason really is because the store that sells Canidae is very very far and there's a feed store nearby that sells a bunch of good food including CN but no Canidae. Plus the CN is cheaper than the Canidae. If I do switch to CN could I feel confident that they're getting very good food?

Re: Help! Food Question.

We used to feed our foster dogs California Natural exclusively because we didn't know their backgrounds and needed a "safety" food (one most tolerated by everyone).

I use Canadian Natural, gypsy was having problems with canidae als (allergies to chicken) she is doing great on cn (turkey&wild salmon) she eats it all up each meal time. I prefer all natural it has fruit and veggies in it also.

Re: Help! Food Question.

I think the dog that didn't like Canidae likes it now. I started to give her the option of Canidae and CN and she would sniff the CN then go to the Canidae and start eating that one! I thought she didn't like it. She seemed not to like it. Maybe it was just the transition from eating pedigree for a year to starting on canidae. Anyway, I found a store closer to me that sells canidae so i'll probably just stick with it.

Re: Help! Food Question.

I started my girl on Canidae. She liked it but was very gassy and her poops were always soft. I switched to Innova (green bag), which she did very well on but never really ate like she "enjoyed" it After reading through the postings here about all the different foods I decided to try California Natural to see if she liked the taste better and she LOVED it. I would alternate between the chicken and lamb formulas and she did well on both.

Re: Help! Food Question.

At first when it seemed she wasn't liking the canidae i gave her the california natural and she seemed to really like it. then i started giving her the option of canidae and cn and she's consistently been choosing the canidae. I haven't tried Innova. I think that brand is more expensive than canidae and cn. I think I'll stick it out with canidae and if i start noticing gas/stool or other problems then i'll see which other brand to try.
