Talking food and water

how much water should my dog drink on a normal day(weather warm not hot) she is drinking about 3 cups a day and how much food should she be eating at 6mths. I feed her 1 cup in am, 1 cup at lunch and 1 cup at dinner. she weighs 63lbs. no blood problems or health issues at this time. she's healthy and happy just wondering if on the right track..

thanks

Re: food and water

I don't know how much water is normal. Both my dogs ALWAYS have access to fresh water...all day every day.

For food amounts, how active is your dog? Can you feel her ribs by lightly touching her sides? Does she have a ncie tuck? What food are you feeding? I can't say 3 cups per day is right - it depends on the dog. When Hudson was 6 months, he ate 4 cups per day of Canidae ALS, but he was also underweight when he came into our home.

Now, both dogs eat 3 - 3.25 cups per day split into two meals.

I would keep an eye on her weight - 63lbs at 6 months is pretty average for a male, females are a little less...so keep an eye on her weight and don't have her gain weight too fast.

I have water down all day but was just curious if she was drinking to much maybe the vet missed something, she is eating Canadian Natural turkey&wild salmon I can feel her ribs slightly but she might be getting to fat I tend to spoil her with yogurt and veggies(raw) she runs around and plays soccer at night plus walks but nothing during the day.

thanks for the feed back

I tend to spoil as well, with dinner leftovers or whatever, but then I just remember that I have to feed less kibble on those days...just to regulate.

Sounds like she may be getting on the chunky side.
I'm not familiar with this food...how many calories per cup? You could feed her twice a day now, she is old enough. I would not feed her more than 3cups per day...and if she starts gaining too much weight, cut back on the "goodies" or cut back on the food.

For a female 63 lbs, at 6 months is a bit on the heavier side...but it depends on her bone size, etc. Keep her growing slow and steady.

As far as water...I too never really keep track. I keep a big bowl full of water, and the two dogs usually have most of it drank down by evening. It depends on weather (hot), and activity. Right now, mine are still eating snow!...when they are playing outside.

I would think most dogs drink 3-4 cups per day?
