Zoom Groom

Has anyone else tried the Kong Zoom Groom on your dog? Last week I took our really frurry mutt to the groomer's and I took our new rotti along just to socialize her with new sounds etc. While there I was lamenting the fact that the rotti sheds more than my other 2 dogs combined. The groomer handed me this rubber nubby thing and told me to try it on Zahra. The thing is amazing!! Is sort of pushes the loose fur in front of it as you brush. Also Zahra loves it... she will lay down and go paws up as soon as I start brushing. I also like it for her because she is still a little underweight (from the shelter) and this is very gentle on her spine and ribcage. The directions also indicate it is a good tool to use while bathing the dog. I will definately try it as soon as bath time rolls around.

The Zoon Groom comes in different levels of firmness. The one I got indicates it is for short or long haired dogs. I tried it on my shepard mix with long soft fur and all it did was make the fur stand on end with static Let's just say Duff was less than impressed. It is definately useful on the Rotti though! I got mine at PetSmart. I searched online and found them on many sites but the shipping was almost as much as the grooming tool. I love this thing!!

Re: Zoom Groom

yes, i have used it.
it makes a good scrubbing brush when you bathe your dog to loosen dead hair and work up the shampoo in.
it is soft enough they enjoy the brushing and removes alot of dead hair.
i also like the furminator, but since it is not as wide, takes longer but removes alot of hair!

Re: Zoom Groom

When I went to grooming school, I learned a really awesome technique to take away some of the shedding....

1) Get yourself a rubber curry comb(similar to what they use for horses, but they now make it for dogs)
2) Lather up your dog with whatever shampoo that you use.
3) Take your RCC(Rubber Curry Comb) and massage your dog for about 10 minutes(Trust me, he/she will likely love it.)
4) Keep your water running---you may need it to rinse out the RCC.
5) Rinse your dog.
6) If you use a conditioner, then do the same thing with the conditioner.

Works wonders.....

Hmmm...perhaps it's a winter thing, or my pooch's young age (7 months) but Arthur just doesn't shed! Is that weird?

It's his age. Oh you just wait till he gets older and you'll wonder why he's not bald.

Re: Zoom Groom

I wish Max would stop shedding! I've got endless black rottie fur bunnies hidden in the weirdest places! Brushing him daily just doesn't seem to cut it right now. I use a slicker brush, but the kong one sounds promising :)

Lol Gary isn't shedding at all either! The only time I remember him shedding bad was when he blew his puppy coat. I think he got rid of all that fuzzy hair in about 2 days...it was hair galore on my carpet!

Anyways, I have a zoom groom (the kitty one, I like it because it is more flexible) for my shepherd mix and I can brush her for an hour, and that brush is still picking hair off of her. I love that brush. That dog sheds year round, heavy. It never stops!

For bathing I don't like the zoom groom. Since it is made of rubber I hate the squeaky sound and feeling when the brush meets water. Just something that bugs me I guess!

Yep but I'm a chepo and actually bought a horse curry from the tack store. It IS good for getting a lot of hair loosened but I still preferr my little bamboo comb (just like a furminator only cheaper) to get the hair removal done. The shedding is JUST starting here!!!
