Where can I get fresh/frozen food?

I know Bill Jack makes a frozen "fresh" product (as opposed to kibble or canned). The problem, is that you can only get it if they deliver it on their trucks and they don't deliver in california.

Anyone know a brand and where I can get frozen food? I heard that frozen food made with fresh meat is so much better for your dog and can actually extend the life of your Rott.

Diamond, go no further than your local butcher. I order ground chicken backs and beef, whole chicken backs, organ meats, etc. which he puts into 2lb packages and I freeze them (if he hasn't done that already for me). It can be quite inexpensive as they often have no market for things like chicken backs and are just as glad to get rid of them for a nominal charge.

Do a search on the BARF diet. You'll find a wealth of information on the internet and this site. My dogs eat raw foods which I consider to be the best kind of diet for them.

Good luck.

"Do it yourself" is the cheapest way to do it. If you want to buy it can get pretty expensive. Find local petshops that sell only premium or superpremium products, chances are that they sell it or at least know who sells frozen products. Other option is to look in your local business directory.
Preparing it yourself is very easy, but you need a large freezer.
1) go shopping, find a supplier of cheap chicken necks and backs, offal, pork riblest and necks, etc, etc (you can use anything that have 50/50 meat/bone ratio, the diet for my dog consists mostly of chicken necks and backs, then once a week turkey necks and pork, and than beef rec bones - this way it's very cheap and he still gets variety.
2) buy veggies and mush them, you can use just about anything exept for onions, some veggies you shouldn't use too much for variety of reasons. Some add fruits to it, some don't. I also add offal and some ground beef for taste and variety.
Too make it more tasty add whole raw egg or canned fish when you serve it. That's it. Some also add some supplements.
Not too long ago I thought there is no way I am gonna do it, but all it takes me is about 5-6 hours every 2 months (including shopping). The health benefits I noticed so far (barfing for 3 months now) less discharge from eyes, farts are few and far between, less stool, better coat, his gums have much better colour, they very pale before. All there are pretty good indication that this food is better than the superpremium kibble I feed before.
Good luck

I, too, am in the process of thoroughly investigating the dog food choices of the world;) , and only yesterday I discovered at my local "gourmet" kennel shop a frozen meat product called "Steve's". I meant to bring some home, but in the excitement of the moment (so many choices, so much new information), I walked out without it. Anyway, you might find this product at a specialty store near you!

Diamond Dog,

I see your in OC. I believe there is a store in Mission Viejo that sells Steve's and also advertises as your local BARF supplier. I haven't gone in to ask, but I assume they put together a diet for your dog. Barbara and Homerhomer can give you tons of advice regarding doing the BARF diet on your own though.

Next time I get the mailer, I will pm you with the name if you are interested. I think they are off of La Paz, off the 5 fwy.

Ralph's (in so. calif.) grocery stores have some dog foods in their frozen section. We tried a roll or two of some lamb, and we buy Dog Paws (frozen marrow treats, like popsicles for him) there, too. For the occassional treat....
