Thumbs up 10 month old's eating habits

My pup doesn't eat her food, she begs for food from us, she I guess knows there is something better and if she holds off and doesn't eat we'll feel bad and feed her human food.

I am worried for her health and I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get her back to eating her meals.

My fiance says stop giving her crap and she'll eventually eat her food, but I just get worried b/c she's the RUNT of her litter and only weighs about 50 lbs at 10 months.

Any advice or even criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mel

Re: 10 month old's eating habits

I guess my first question is what food are you feeding her? If you are offering her a high quality food, one that has a good meat source as the main ingredient, then you need to ignore her begging and only offer her her food at meal time. maybe her meal time should be 3 times a day. My dogs inhale their food in 40 seconds flat, or so it seems. But I've been spending a lot of time researching foods lately, and have almost decided to, if not cook all their food, at least supplement their dry kibble with some extra meat and veggies.

Re: 10 month old's eating habits

Are you free feeding her?

She's begging food from you because you're letting her. And by doing so, you're training her to have bad manners. (Think about what she'll be like when she's a grown dog and you have guests over for a fancy holiday meal. Not a pretty sight.)

If you crated her when you ate, it would instantly end her begging.
