Re: Nutro Large Breed Puppy Controlled Growth

I would cut down on the amount of the "goodies" and a few cups of food out of there as well. 6 Cups seems like an awful lot. Remember to take into account the extras he get as well- they also have a value nutrionally speaking. Maybe keep a food journal for a few days for him- you would be surprised maybe at how much food he is taking in. You could also moniter when and what he is gassy after eating that way- to see if it actually after his kibble ( am am assuming yo uare feeding the Nutro Kibble?) or after the extra treats he gets. Or stop extras altogether for a couple of days- see if he continues the gas, and you will know if its the food- and vices versa.

I myself have fed rawhide here, but I dont prefer it to raw marrow bones. I concure with Skip about the chemicals- escpecially with all the hooplah lately. So it you do feed rawhide-make sure it is least processed as you can get it, made-handles and whatever else they do to it in USA. I also didnt feed it until Gunner was older as well. And ALWAYS under supervision. Having said all that though- Some dogs might not be able to chew it proper, taking big pieces off- so its really and individual thing I think.

We feed it here ocassionally, and are dog is alive and kicking. I also like to throw it out though when he gets to the end for his safety though so he doesnt try to wolf if down. Another treat (not as longlasting) that is semi-comparable and more natural is the cow puff. For 99 cents you can get the cows inner ear that is a softer and easier to chew up item. They dont last long hear- 5-10 minutes - but are cheap and low in nutrional values(not high cal/fat/ protien) and make a good treat for us. Find these and other items simialr at local pet shops and feed stores.

Be careful what items you give am moniter chewing at all times to be safe. I personally dont like smoked items that will split- so dont give them-hooves, smoked bones, and other items like that. So just keep those things in mind when picking goodies out.
