The Furminator

Is the furminator worth its price? Where i live they run anywhere from 39.00 to 59.00.

Re: The Furminator

I think so. I know it's pricey for a dog comb, but it really does work like they say it does.
If you do a search on furminator here you will find lots of discussion.
I use it once a week on my dog and I don't have to vacuum twice a day anymore.
I would buy one again.

Look around online, they are much less expensive.

Arrow Re: The Furminator

I paid $30. It does get a lot of hair. My cat loves it...LOL. Jax doesn't seem to mind it either. But...$30 is an awful lot.

Re: The Furminator

Yes... it's worth it. I bought one for my cats off Amazon.com & it works wonders! It's a night & Day difference from a std brush. I hope to be getting a Rottweiler puppy in the coming months, and I plan on using the small one on him as a pup, and buying the larger one for when he or she gets older.

Re: The Furminator

I just bought one today. It cost me an arm and a leg but I figure if my house stays cleaner, it will be worth it, at least for my mental health. It took a ton of fur off of my lab.

Re: The Furminator

Looks like this gizmo would work great. I use a shedding blade which I got from the feed store (much less money) and it too works great.

Re: The Furminator

You can easily find them for the low 30s if you search online. I just bought one off Ebay for $33.99

Re: The Furminator

My hubby found the large size Furminator at a local store (can I say the name?) for $32.99, marked down from $44.99, which was the previous mark down from $59.99!
I used it on Troodie last night, works wonderfully. It really gets the undercoat
cleaned up. I had started to amass some serious clumps of fur when suddenly she showed undue interest in the thing. I had to stop and put it away for it's own protection.
But after her next bath we will get that thing out and groom her properly. Not up for that yet. But what a great product!

Talking Re: The Furminator

I bought one too, can't wait until I get to use it. I wonder if it is ok to use it on a 8 week old pup? Any suggestions?

NO....it is not necessary or advisable to use a Furminator on a baby puppy. It's much to harsh for baby skin. If you want to see how it works, find a friend's adult dog, give it a try, and then take it home and put it in the closet until your puppy is 9-12 months old.

For a puppy, you should use a soft brush or rubber nubbie for grooming, and that's it. Puppy grooming is important to teach them to accept and enjoy grooming...if you use a tool that's too harsh for a puppy, your puppy will do her best to avoid the experience.

Post Re: The Furminator

I am NOT on the Furminator bandwagon.
I don't think it's worth the price (I think I paid $55. Canadian?)...and don't think it's all that special.

I have all sorts of brushes, combs, rakes, slickers, shedding blades,etc...and for my own dogs the best brush is rubber curry (horse), and the undercoat rake.

I use the Furminator on some of my boarding dogs (most often Golden Retrievers)...and it works quite well on them...but nothing I can't do with my $16.99 undercoat rake.

My .2 cents.

Gina

Re: The Furminator

Well.....I have my Furminator for sale for 20 bucks. Some years ago I bought a glove with the rubber thingys on it on clearance at Walmart. I have hunted for another one and couldn't find one until yesterday.
It was only a dollar so I bought it. (I should have bought more.) It gets tons of hair easily and the dog and cat love it.
I just didn't feel comfortable using the Furminator.

Re: The Furminator

This sounds like an interesting tool. I will have to look for this. I have white tile all through my house. (what was I thinking?) I have to vacuum every day, sometimes twice a day.
