| This can be caused by several things and some can be very serious. Severe diarrhea can cause dehydration, too, and your dog will get dehydrated much quicker if there's also vomiting. How old is your pup? Has she been wormed, is there any vomiting? Is it occasional or is this ongoing?

| If the diarreha lasts for more than 24 hours, you really should take your pup to the vet. The rule of thumb I have always followed is that it takes 24 hours for anything (food) to pass through your pup's system. Obviously, if there are other symptoms besides the diarreha (blood in the stool, listlessness, trouble breathing, vomiting, temperature to name just a few) get him to the vet. As Traci mentioned, your pup will dehydrate very quickly, as all the fluid is vacating his system in an attempt to flush out whatever is making him feel icky. There are many illnesses that can affect your dog, especially during the puppy stages, including Parvo, Distemper, Giardia (sp?). Also, parasitic infection, food intolerance, heat, stress, etc. All of these things can affect your dog's digestive system. Parvo and Distemper can/will kill your pup without proper medical attention. It is always better to feel like a fool later when you find out there was nothing wrong, then pay the price with irreperable damage to your puppy's health. |

| Thanks for your replies but I think I should give you some more information. She is 71/2 months old, she has been wormed and it is an occasional proplem. I feed my puppy both dry food and normal food for a long time now. I noticed that when ever I give her dry food her next visit to the park will be diarrhea. I 've tried different brands of dry food but I haven't seen any change. My vet told me that shee might be sensitive to dry food. Is this possible? |

| If you are feeding both dry and canned (I'm assuming this is what you meant by normal) and she is not having a problem other than when she goes to the park, then it could very well be a stress reaction. If she is having this problem when you are feeding her normal rations than she may be sensitive to the brand of food you are feeding her. Have you tried changing her diet to a different brand of kibble? Are you taking in to consideration the amount of dry food vs. canned that you are feeding her at each feeding and accomodating for the varying caloric count? Does she have this problem when you just feed her stictly dry or strictly canned food? I don't think she would have this reaction strictly because the food is found in a dry form as opposed to canned. I feel it has everything to do with the ingredients as opposed to the format it is digested in. But I am not a vet. What are you feeding her currently? If she has normal stool at all other times, then I would think that the diarrhea is brought on by the stress/excitment of going to the park and doing something new/fun/different. Does she have a similar reaction when you take her to any places that are new or exciting to her? This is just my opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of others who may have a different view point and would be interested to see what they have to say. |

| PuppyLove makes a good point about going to the park. But if it is happening at other times as well, you might want to investigate some different foods. You said you've tried different brands of kibble, but different brands often contain many of the same ingredients, so you'll want to check the labels thoroughly.
