| I have been feeding Wellness dog food since Lyla was a baby can anyone suggest a dog food similiar in ingredients but not so expensive. When I started buying the 30lbs bag it cost about $32 dollars it has now gone up to $48.00. I was told about "Pro PAc" is this a good dog food? Thank you in advance for any suggestions. |

| Can you get Canidae? It's probably the best priced out of all of the super premium foods. Pro Pac is not a quality food, lots of grains...very little meat. Gina

| Re: Wellness I had not heard of it before, so I went to their website. They have several types, the ones with corn as the second ingredient I would stay away from. There are other options for premium foods, and lots of threads on it here. I would second the suggestion for Canidae.

| Re: Wellness Don't look at it as cost per bag, look at it as cost per feeding. It usually costs less to feed a higher quality food. Yes, dogs don't have the digestive enzymes to adequately break down complex sugars with their short digestive tracts.

| Re: Wellness The analogy I've seen given on here is that dogs are meat eaters and not like cows or horses. For example, just like horses do well on a diet of grains, not meat, dogs do well on a diet made up mostly of meat, not grains.

| Grains are a cheap source of protein to add to dog foods. ![]() Meat is more expensive...meaning the more meat, the more it costs. Many of the cheap and mid-grade foods use grains that are not fit for human consumption...this is why human food companies are also makers of petfoods...anything that is not fit for human consumption...goes into pet foods. ![]() Find a food that has two meats as the first 3 ingredients of the food. Dogs eating alot of grains, usually need to eat twice as much, and poop out huge amounts too. ![]() ![]() Gina
