Cost of Food

Could anyone tell me how much you spend on decent food for an adult male Rottie per month? (I'm trying to price every possible thing right now). Thanks.

Well i pay 34.99 for a 40lb bag of Canidae for my dog. It is more expensive, but i feed less so it works out better for me.

Re: Cost of Food

It costs us around $4 or $5 per day to feed Static. This includes his biscuits, vegies, sardines, mince, any treats he might have (including shanks/marrowbones) worked out over a month.
The premium brands of food here are quite pricey. around $106 for 15kg. ($90 US for 33lbs) Big dogs are expensive business in Oz!!
But Static is a growing pup - so he may get a little cheaper when he stops growing. we dont think he will be a very big boy as he is quite small now compared to other pups his age (Rotts only though) he is about 78lbs at 7 months.

Re: Cost of Food

Ranger eats Canidae. $38 for a 40 pound bag per month. My elderly dog also eats Canidae but it lasts twice as long because he's not as active.

Re: Cost of Food

I've been feeding Innova Evo and the regular costs about $41. One big bag lasts me about a month for two dogs.

You are going through 33 pounds of food fast with one dog. Just curious --How much do you feed a day?

One thing the OP needs to keep in mind is how much you need to feed. You feed less of the premium foods, so they cost more but last longer... they are often actually cheaper to feed than some of the less expensive foods.

I feed one cup twice a day to my senior girl, using Canidae Platinum. It is in the range of 38.00 for the big bag -- 35 pounds. It lasts over 2 months. I pay a little extra when I buy it from a place that delivers it.... saves the time and sometimes hassle of going to the feed store, and the gasoline.

I feed 1.5 cup in the morning and 1-1.5 cup in the evening. For dinner I also give her abt 100grs Hill's T/D because she has a tendency for tartar build-up. This costs 25 euro (abt US$ 33) per 5 kgs bag. Do you think I'm overfeeding her?

I would bet a good bone would be cheaper AND more effective at keeping her teeth clean.

I've tried almost all sorts of bones but to no success. She had a professional tooth cleaning 3 weeks ago, during her spaying operation and I'm trying to keep them clean, white and shiny
