Favorite Home cooked veggie

I'm learning everyday what Dixie will eat (in veggies) and what she won't touch.

Don't feed her squash or carrots, she will pull them outta the bowl to get to the good stuff that she does like.

She loves califlower, brocolli and sweet potatoes. Peas are not a favorite either but if I put enough of her favorite veggies in there - it's all good. Only because they are too hard to get out of her bowl IMHO.

What's your dog's favorite cooked veggie, have you ever had a dog that removed unwanted food items for their dish? She's very abby in general so if she's the only one - I won't be at all surprised.

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

My dog doesn't like raw asparagus, raw garlic, anything pickled or hot, and olives. I think he even ate a lemon wedge that fell on the floor once! lol

Edited to add:(Oh, I don't feed him any of these! These items are just things that have fallen on the floor while chopping or cooking and he will leave it if I am fast enough to get a "llllllllllllleave it" out. Usually he dives onto the fallen item before I can even get a "llllllllllllllllllllllllllle" and its gobbled up. Yeah, so he wins that game. )

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

Static eats anything. Carrots are his fave veg - raw preferably. he likes beans, peas and carrots. i've not tried him on any others. he likes apple, banana and watermelon though ...
he will pick out his favorite items and eat them first - but will then eat the rest of his meal.

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

It's official, my dog is PICKY!

But that's ok, she get's it ligit from being in our house.

I did throw in chick-peas one time and those went over ok. Dixie has never liked raw - no carrots, no apple, or anything like that. I bet I could get a banana over on her, watermelon we'll have to try next weekend.

LOL on being quicker then the dog. Dixie will leave it, only if I walk away from it or tell her "want this?" will she take it. I do know that once it's in her mouth, "OUT" does not work too well with food items. Everything else is no problem.

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

Found another favorite - steamed cauliflower. I guess we can share my lunches. Just this once.

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

Both of mine like raw carrots and Gretchen will eat green beans, but Samson eats around them. I've also tried broccoli and neither was a big fan. They love fruits more than vegetables (just like me).

They love apples, bananas, but weren't too sure about oranges (they ate the wedge, though). I just gave them a couple pieces of watermelon a couple days ago and I think they like it best of all. I have some more in my fridge so I'll be testing out my theory in a day or two.

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

Amber is a fiend for raw napa cabbage stalks & romaine lettuce stalks. She'll come & sit in the kitchen when she sees me chopping. The only thing she doesn't seem to like is banana. With Smidgen she'd eat everything except for lettuce and tomatoes. Goofy dogs!

Chili loves cooked squash and fresh apples and blueberries the best. Turns her nose up at bananas, which were a favorite of Luna's, along with fresh tomato with a touch of mayo. Luna also liked fresh apple and blueberries.

Lola loves carrots, string beans ,snap peas in pod lettuce all kinds, cherry tomatoes, lima beans, cuckes, black olives, corn on the cob if you are willing to hold the cob and turn it for her. She is crazy about mangos and all kinds of melon. She loves blue berries and oranges. She will actually accept everything in her mouth and what she doesn't like she just spits out. She especially likes pumpkin seeds and all nuts.

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

Troodie loves potatoes, and carrots. I recently found out my hubby was not
eating his carrots all the time, he was dropping them in the dog bowl for
tidy disposal! She likes apple wedges, pears, but blueberries are her favorite fruit.
I have learned that feeding dogs cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower)
is a bad idea if your dog is prone to gas problems.

I hope you don't mind if I add this link, just to be on the safe side, since some fruits and veggies are bad for them.

Foods Which are Toxic to Dogs

Re: Favorite Home cooked veggie

No, thanks for that list. I am aware of most of them.

I know some people can feed their dogs dairy products but I tried it once with dixie and she threw it right up - she's obviously has those lactose issues.

Won't be trying that again :)
