Talking Re: Abady dog food?

Are you asking about the fresh frozen food? I went to their website, and I could not see where any of the ingredients are posted.

I do think it was one of the foods recommended by the Whole Dog Journal.

Can you post some of the ingredients?

Gina

Re: Abady dog food?

I have no personal experience with the Abady line of products, however, one of the dog lists I belong to had a discussion on Abady awhile back.
Apparently they tote their product as if it were a superpremium, while in fact it is a far cry from that level of bioavailability. "They use waste products from the human food industry, rather then human-grade ingredients" (Mary Straus, K9Nutrition).
So, curiosity got the best of me, and I took a look at the ingredients in the "Abady Elevated Level of Nutrition" formula. Aside from Poultry-by-product meal, menhaden fish meal and cornmeal as the first 3 ingredients; it also contains "kibbled yellow corn chunks" and "lard". Yum! Sounds like superior nutrition to me!
I would avoid this product like the plague. You can do much better by your dog!

Re: Abady dog food?

No experience with the food but they (and Solid Gold) have the most deceptive and untrue advertising practices going

They like to take out full page ads (Abady and Solid Gold) and preach against something innocuous and make all the other premium dog food companies appear to want to kill your dog but that they (Abady and Solid Gold- which are unrelated BTW) have your dog's best interest at heart

The ads are straight up lies or semi truths

Re: Abady dog food?

Any food with by-products and corn does not compare in any favourable way with foods like Canidae and Artemis. Just compare the ingredients. If you see by-products, generics ("meat meal" or "poultry fat"), or corn, it's not a super premium food.

And in addition to Solid Gold and Abady's disingenuous advertising that Diane pointed out, Bil-Jac does this as well: they claim up and down that the by products that THEY use are somehow not really the same as "by products" and instead are only things like organ meats. This is misleading - the problem with by products isn't that it's organ meats (organ meats are great for dogs), the problem is that the definition of, and standards for, what can be called "by products" are so wide and low that sure, you might get some heart and lung in there, but you can ALSO get things like beaks, feathers, bloody sawdust and a variety of other things which greatly reduce both the actual bioavaliable nutrient content AND the quality. Super premium foods identify what they contain as "beef hearts, lamb lungs, whatever", because the standard for what can be called "beef hearts" is strict, and that way you know exactly what you're getting (or at least as exactly as is possible with a commercially-produced food, which is fairly exact).

Whatever works best for the individual dog. Currently we feed Healthwise Chicken & Oatmeal, Innova Evo and Bravo raw
