Food help please

I'm currently feeding chicken soap for the dog lovers soal dog food. Minnie (the rottie) has had Diahrea on and off for 2 weeks. She seems to have it for a day then is fine for a few days and then it comes back. She isn't getting anything new. No new treats, bones, biscuets nothing new. She has been eatting the food for over a year. She does not have any pests in her system no worms or anything. So i'm starting to think its the food thats causing the problem. I use to feed Nutro natrual large breed and she did fine on it. And when she was a puppy she got iams. So what do yuo think i should do? switch her back to nutro or iams? what do you think it is?? TYIA

Re: Food help please

I wouldn't feed any of the foods you are or have previously fed. There are better foods out there and she is having some type of digestive issue with the current food. So I'm going to give you a short list of foods that are better for your dog. Since dogs can develop allergies to the same foods feed day in and day out for years not to mention how terrible it would be to eat the same thing, I like these super premium foods that allow you to rotate with in the line.

You will not find these foods in your local pet food supplier. Look for someone who sells holistic brand foods.

Timberwolf Organics though it is not easily found in all stores. There are a variety of meat proteins that also allow you to adjust the protein and fat consumption. I'm a huge fan of Timberwolf Organics.

Nature's Variety same thing you can rotate within the line and this kibble has RAW layered over top. Now of course once heated it does loose the benefits of the enzymes, still an excellent food.

You could go with a more basic food that is excellent but low in protein @ 21% protein. CA Natural either the Chicken & Rice or the Lamb and Rice a terrific food for dogs that are sensitive to multiple ingredients.

Innova and Innova Evo same makers of CA Natural, Evo is very high in protein some may not want a food that has that high a protein. Another excellent food with wonderful ingredients.

Canidae an all time favorite of many on the board with 3 meat proteins with in the first 5 ingredients.

You could always opt for a RAW diet.

Remember it's not just wants on the label but the quality of the food. I've talked with people who have visited the makers of Innova/CA Natural and he said that place is spotless the meats and veggies used in their foods are the same we would eat.

Also, if a food, no matter how good the ingredients are is not working for your dog, do switch foods. It takes about 4-6 weeks to see an improvement.

Re: Food help please

Hello there,

I had a problem with getting my 7 month old rottie George to eat much at all. Then on the advice of a trainer I tried naturediet. George loves it and it is gone in an instant. It has no preservatives or additives and is a 'clean' food - it even looks human!

George used to suffer terribly with wind (phew) and also inconsistent stools but since being on naturediet he hasn't looked back.

Re: Food help please

i talked to the vet and she told me to give pepto and the pepto worked for a few days but it would come back. She was at the vets 3 weeks ago and she will be going back in the next week or 2 as we are moving and they need a check up and shots and everything so I told them about it and they will check then. My vet said it doesn't sound like its bugging her any besides the gas and constint pooping. But to keep an eye on it and if it gets werse to bring her in. She hasn't had it for more the a day so thats why my vet said we can wait if it was going on for 2 or 3 days then to come in. Anyway do you guys know where i can buy these foods at?? I'm in hawaii right now and will be flying to san diego mid october.TIA

Meg
