Need advice on food for Sadie

Sadie is about 6 years old and over weight. What would be a good food for her?

Re: Need advice on food for Sadie

I would go with Canidae. I have a 12 year old and she gets 1 cup twice a day. She went from an overweight 100 pounds to a trim 87 pounder.
Canidae is a very high quality all stages food.

Re: Need advice on food for Sadie

Do a search here, and you should come up with a lot of great posts. It is a human grade food, that all my rotties are on.

You could also buy it online and have it delivered...
I don't personally but many members do and can point you to the best sites to order from!

Re: Need advice on food for Sadie

When Emmy needed to lose 8lbs, I used Canidae Senior, it is a lower fat, lower protein, less calories and she got 1 1/2 cup in the am w/green beans for filler so she didn't feel hungry and 1 cup in the pm w/green beans for filler. Worked like a charm! Good luck and Sadie will feel much better once that extra weight is off!!

Re: Need advice on food for Sadie

Here in Rochester MN there is a store about 20 min away that charges 29.99 for a 40lb bag (lasts me about 2 months with 2 dogs) and they even deliver to the front door free of charge. So I don't have to drive over there and pick it up....

Here in Calif, I paid $34.99 for a 40lb bag but that also lasted me a little over two mos, so not too bad really!

If you read thru the postings here in Nutrition and Grooming, you'll learn alot about food because food is a topic of perennial interest. At first all the info might be confusing, but soon you'll see names of foods we like mentioned over and over. And you'll see why we like the foods we do.

Re: Need advice on food for Sadie

If your dogs are thriving on Nutro, and $$ is an issue for you, then just try less food and more exercise!!!!

(I should take my own advice...*urrp*)

Re: Need advice on food for Sadie

Stephanie is right... although Canidae is a good food if your dogs are doing ok on Nutro I would feed less and substitute some veggies like green beans and up the exercise slowly.....she should start to loose weight
