Innova Evo vs. Innova

So, I want to get my dogs off Innova puppy. First of all they don't seem to like it too well and the 24% protein just isn't enough in my opinion.
I was looking at the Evo dry and it has 42% protein (HOLY MOLY).
Whats your experience with Evo?

Why do you think so? What do you feed? What protein content range do you think is good and why?

Post Re: Innova Evo vs. Innova

The maker's of EVO do not recommend feeding it to a large breed pup. It's the calcium/phosphorus ratios that are out of wack for a fast growing breed. Do a search, many of us were very interested in feeding EVO when it first came out...and it is a good food...but not for a growing puppy.

The amount of protein in Innova Puppy is fine...I know that the greatdane lady does not recommend any higher amounts for growing puppy Danes.

Your puppy has medical problems .....feeding higher protein may do more harm than good. If your pup were healthy she would be growing fine on Innova Puppy...she would also be fine growing on Innova Adult. Since there are problems...I don't think you will find a "magic" solution to make her grow and gain weight, etc.

Re: Innova Evo vs. Innova

first let me say i am NO expert ... i am just going by what the breeder told me and what i have read both here and elsewhere ...
in my puppy contract, it says that "anything over 28% protein is too high and anything under 26% too low. fat content should not be lower than 16%. calcium will not be supplemented by tablet or powder, or phosphorous, and high in protein puppy food will not be fed to puppies."
i think the main concern is too rapid growth, which can put pressure on the joints ...
i feed Life's Abundance ... which has 26% protein and 16% fat.

I'm not trying to find a magic solution to make her grow and gain weight. I'm simply looking for a different food because she doesn't seem to like it and this article on protein contentProtein Requirements and Meat Diets for Dogs and Cats in ThePetCenter.com . And yes, I agree, if indeed she has liver problem (which I won't know until the new blood work is in) it will do more harm then good. But let's just assume her liver is fine and we are talking about a healthy puppy.

Re: Innova Evo vs. Innova

i really think it's a matter of "horses for courses". if you read the numerous posts of feeding, you'll see that what makes one dog thrive, causes stomach upsets or poor coats etc in another .... it's really matter of trial and error. once you notice a positive result, stick with it ...
