Fish oil!

I started giving Serena fish oil with each meal about two weeks ago. Wow! What a difference. She practically gloes in the dark! But, how much should I be giving? Can too much be problem? Is there a difference between fish oil and salmon oil? Can it increase her appetite? I've read the threads that say to make sure it is a quality product which I have done. We just started feeding EVO and we mix in lots of fresh veggies and a little fruit at least every other day. Appreciate the imput.

Bill

Re: Fish oil!

Regardless of what type of fish oil, whats most important are these two factors.

1.) content of EPA and DHA
2.) purity - that it has gone through a process that eliminates toxins.

Re: Fish oil!

In the other thread, Gina mentions that if you add salmon oil you must add vitamin e. Is this true?

Re: Fish oil!

Yep - and this is why: I've read that it's important to supplement with vitamin E when supplementing with salmon oil because the chemical action of the fish oil attracts oxygen, creating oxidation (which is why fish oils degrade quickly). There are many benefits to the salmon oil, but the oxidation can cause destruction of vitamins and the production of peroxides, which can cause disease. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps slow fat oxidation and peroxide formation.

Re: Fish oil!

We've started with the vit E, we'll let you know if there are any visable results. I know there are tons of invisible benefits. My mom also started this routine with her 10 and 11 year old dogs to see if it can help with dry skin and arthritis.

Re: Fish oil!

Omega three fatty acids can serve as an anti inflamatory! This treatment is as good for humans as it is for dogs!
