Talking Orijen

I have heard about a great sounding new food that is made and sold in Canada. Just wondering if anyone has seen it in or tried it? It is a grainless food, very similar to EVO, but I think Orijen is even a better product.

Their website is: Orijen click on the ORIJEN side and take a look at the ingredients.

I could not get the store locator to work for me....but will be asking my local petfood (Global) to get it in for me if they can.

Re: Orijen

Interesting...did you find anywhere what the calories per cup or per kilo were. I'm looking but I can't find it...

Re: Orijen

To be fair, they advertise as Grain free and low carb, not carb free.

If you go to Lew Olson's B Natural site and look at the articles on feeding, you will see that NO Carbs is best.

This is her personal opinion.
Millions of dogs live long, healthy lives eating carbs. Many veterinarians would argue with Lew Olson's feeding articles. Dr. Pitcairin is not only a veterinarian but also has a PHD in Nutrition and he advocates carbs in home prepared diets.

I believe that any kibble ...be it EVO or Orijen must have some carbs in it so that the kibble will hold together.

I think a kibble that has 70% meat is way above even the most super premium food. Many of us cannot feed the BARF diet...for lack of space, or cost is too high or lack of knowledge. I think that Orijen is a food I will try in or rotation of good kibbles.

If I can get it I will report back.

Re: Orijen

This was the response I received from the manufacturer...

Thank you for your email and your interest in our products!

We currently aren’t quite established in Ontario-we are still working on getting a distributor set up for your area. I imagine that this will likely take a month or two, however we will be moving into the Ontario market soon.

I will keep your email address on file and keep you posted on our progress!

Thanks again for your inquiry and please give my regards to your furry friend!

Cool Re: Orijen

LOL ...she sent me the same e-mail.
I guess we will just have to wait patiently for it to come here. Since they are based from Alberta...they probably went to try the B.C. market first. In BC every second petfood store has huge freezers selling BARF prepared diets...something that is much harder to find in Ontario.

Hope I can afford it once it's sold here.

Re: Orijen

Pet Planet in Calgary sells it. The 13.5 KG bag costs $55.98 plus GST. I thinkl I will be trying it once we finish the EVO. This food has a few extras I like. Thanks for the4 heads up on this product. I think the girl said the food has 480 calories per cup. The rep just called me and said Petland also sells it, as well as a few independant dealers.

Jory, I honestly can't figure out where you get your information from, or how you interpret the information you get.

Lew Olsen's advanced raw diet contains recommendations for the following:

broccoli, celery, collards, mustard greens, spinach, romaine lettuce, bok choy, cabbage, summer squash, cucumbers, cauliflower, carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squash

AND

yogurt, cottage cheese, kefir (the dreaded MILK product!)

AND she recommends a green food containing:

seaweeds and alfalfa

ALL OF THE ABOVE FOODS CONTAIN CARBOHYDRATES. So what on earth are you talking about?

The Orijen looks to be a good food to me, carbs and all!

Re: Orijen

I picked up a small bag today for senior dogs. I am very impressed with the botanicals, glucosamine, chondrotin, and omega threes in this food. I talked to a rep for an hour on the phone today, she was great! The senior formula has 410 calories per cup.

I gave the critics a small sample and they loved it. It smells pretty good for kibble as well. It is less money then the EVO, and has loads of vitamins in it.

I'm glad I saw this post and looked into it.
