| Inhaling his chicken wings! Hey guys-well I posted another thread this morning, started feeding raw and it went great-the only problem-I thought that chicken wings would be better for my 15wk. old pup, but he INHALES them! My adult dog got a few chicken leg quarters and did great-chewed them up nice and good. But I have to hold onto the chicken wings or he will swallow them whole! Should I freeze them?? Or is he old enough to just start with eating legs and backs! Thanks! |

| Re: Inhaling his chicken wings! Our pups start getting wings when they are 6 weeks of age! He's perfectly old enough for the bigger pieces and maybe they will stop him from just swallowing them whole. Also, maybe he needs to be crated so that he does not feel like anyone will come and take his treats away. He may be bolting them down if he feels that you or another dog will take them from him. Another thing to remember is that it is better to feed a portion that has more bone than meat, i.e., backs, necks, etc. rather than the pieces that have more meat on them, i.e. thigh, breast, etc.

| Re: Inhaling his chicken wings! Ok, makes sense-Thank you! I don't think he feels threatened-he inhaled his kibble too!! I just was able to slow him down with that by putting a kong in his food bowl. Also, they are being feed seperatly-he is in his crate while Aveda is eating-and she is in another room during his meal-so no competition. He is really starting to blossom and is an eager beaver about EVERYTHING!! He just loves life with gusto-its sooo much fun to watch him learn! Thanks so the advice-I'm picking up a case of backs on Sat-so I'll give them a try! |
