Is there a reason that you want to give your dog supplements? Is the dog sick or pregnant or have joint problems?

I think it is always better to put your money into good food. If you are feeding a top quality food such as Innova, or Natural Balance or Canidae, or Wellness, etc....these foods already contain most of these supplements.

If you are feeding Purina Dog Chow or Pedigree or Iams, etc., then maybe you could add these supplements to give your dog better health.

Feed a good diet, add meats or an egg and some veggies and fruits occasionally and your dog should not need any supplements.

My dog Echo is 5 months old and I switched him to Canidae about 2 weeks ago. The reason for my question is he is scratching and biting himself a lot. His hind legs have bald spots from where he is biting himself. We have been to his vet a few times over the last couple of months and have basically been told lets wait and see. I thought switching over to Canidae might help since it has no corn or grains which are common allergens. Is 2 weeks long enough to determine if it was food related?

It does not sound like it's food related. Usually if they are sensitive or allergic to an ingredient in the food...it causes licking of feet and runny eyes and ear infections.

Is your pup on flea medication? Sounds like it could be fleas? Or mange mites? Mange causes them to itch and chew themselves raw. Has the vet done a scraping and looked under the microscope?

Canidae is a great food...being on it for 2 weeks is not all that long. Before I started changing foods or adding any supplements....I would be looking for the cause of the itch.

Have you got ants or some sort of bugs outside that are biting?

A healthy dog, eating a good diet does not need supplements. Your best bet is to find out the cause of the itching and go from there.

Re: Supplements-Dinovite/Nu-Vet Labs

I use NuVet as recommended by my breeder for the time being. She is very healthy and shiny coat and growing at a nice steady pace (not too fast). What I am starting to believe is that things would not be much different without them since I feed her quality food (Innova) and we excersise. I'm not sure I'm going to continue.

He is on Frontline and after visual inspections I see no sign of fleas or ticks. There could be something in the lawn that bit him but nothing that is a know problem. If it does not improve I will have his vet do a skin scrape. He is not licking his feet and his ears and eyes are good.

Thanks
