I'm using science diet

Hello all. I'm new here. My hubby, 2 kids and 2 kittens just adopted an 8 week old Rottie/German Shepard mix last night. He's GREAT! I'm feeding him Science Diet large puppy right now. I just bought a HUGE bag of it. I've been reading however that it's no good for him. Why? I feed my kittens Royal Canin and am thinking about giving Royal Canin puppy for large dogs to him also. What do you think? I'll take any advice I can get.Thank you so much
