| Number of feedings per day Newton is now 5 months old and is currently getting fed three times a day. I was wondering if we should continue feeding him this often or if we should switch to 2 times a day at some point in time? Currently, I don't think he would eat as much food if we switched him to twice a day, and he is eating the right amount now. Is there some point when you should switch over to twice a day? |

| Re: Number of feedings per day This is about the age I dropprd to teo a day. Notjing wrong with continuing 3 a day. At this point I'd say it depends on the dog. Mine seemed uninterested in lunch so we dropped it. |

| Re: Number of feedings per day Sebastian is a bottomless pit when it comes to food. . .I'm sure he'd love it if I fed him three times a day. . .however, he gets just two meals a day, and since I work out of the home it would be difficult to fit in a "lunch" for him.

| Re: Number of feedings per day Deja is 6 months old and I'm feeding 2 meals per day with 1/4 cup kibble reserved for a lunch snack. She's hasn't been weened completely because she's a food hog. She is so food-motivated and it helps me to use this kibble to conduct an impromptu training session at lunchtime. Just my way of getting in some practice! ![]()

| Re: Number of feedings per day The only thing I'm worried about is that he won't eat larger portions. As it is, it's hard to get him to finish his food...he normally needs some sort of extra goody on top . I guess if I switched to twice a day he might be more hungry so he'll finish larger portions? |

| Re: Number of feedings per day It all depends on the dog. If he doesn't like large portions then stick with three smaller portions. |

| Re: Number of feedings per day Are you leaving his food down for however long he takes to eat or do you leave it down for a set amount of time (e.g. 20 minutes) and then take it up? I found when I first got mine they would eat some, but not all of their food. I would give them about 15-20 minutes to finish and when they didn't I took their bowl and put it out of their reach. It only took a few feedings before they would stay and eat all of their food within minutes. |

| Re: Number of feedings per day Thanks for the advice . I'll try only giving him 15 minutes to finish and see how it goes. |
