Food and direaha - Innova Red Meat

Well, we are changing Asee's food yet again. It seems 1/2 way through the 3rd bag or 2 1/2 months after she starts a food we begin to get direaha and itchiness. We have tried Canidae all-stages, California Natural Puppy Lamb and Rice, (Thease two gave her a dull coat), now we are on Healthwise Adult. Her coat looks great, but we have had on and off direaha for the last two weeks. As normal we had her stools checked last week and this week, both clear. The vet tested for Gardia and Coccocidia, both clear. Stool was very normal except extreamly soft! Our vet doesn't suggest any other testing, but she suggested we try the lamb and rice Science diet or the one for sensitive tummies. (Both have corn products in them, how are they going to help Asee?)

Nope! We are going to try the Evo, but I can't decide between the Red Meat and the regular.

I hope this will help clear up the direaha and itchies. Can anyone else suggest something I should be doing to clear this up? Am I making it worse by changing her foods? I can't think of anything else to do and my vet is little help in this.

Re: Food and direaha - Innova Red Meat

I am at the tail end of changing one of my boys to Evo from Innova (green bag). He also has a sensitive tummy so it has taken us 6 weeks with only 1/4 cup change per week. I also add other things to his meal besides kibble, but when the change seems to be affecting his stools (other than soft only), I subsidize the kibble with chicken and broth. This seems to calm his tummy. Good luck with the change....it takes us forever to change Moses...the other 2 I can switch the food immediately and absolutely no issues.

In all honesty, constantly switching foods is doing your dog no good. You need to figure out what the problem is (IBD? Allergy?) and then work on finding a food that fits the solution. Running pell mell through foods, especially foods with multiple protein sources like EVO and Cannidae is going to do nothing but make his system worse.

Do some searching on elimination diets and read to understand how you go about finding out what protein sources your dog can tolerate and which ones he can't.

From what you've said, EVO is the LAST thing you need to be putting your dog on.

Have you tried the California Natural Chicken and Rice? My guy did not do well at all on the Lamb and Rice but does wonderfully on the Chicken formula.
