Trimmed nail a little to short

It appears that I got a little too close to the quick this time, Sherman's toe nail is bleeding. What can we put on it to stop/clot it. It's not gushing blood but a little more than oozing.

apply pressure....if you have cornstarch you can use that....And make a memo to keep quick stop in your house from now on...you can get it at the vet

thanks...I also found an on line vet Q&A that said flour would work. it seems to have slowed/stopped - will def pick up some quick stop at his next vet visit in a couple weeks

You can use the stuff they sell for men at the grocery or drug store - styptic powder.

In the meantime keep the dog quiet so that the heart is pumping blood any quicker than normal

And remember NOT to make a big deal out of it - he will remember that and may start to make nail clipping a big deal and more difficult for you to do.

I have nicked all my dogs time and again. It stops, they don't die, you move on. Most of the time, I don't even know I have done it until later when I see the blood drops on the floor. They don't scream or overreact because I have never done that.

Someone told me once that you can scrape a bar of soap over the nail to stop the bleeding.

Ice will also work; anything that will constrict the vein.

I might be late. I did this once. I stopped by dipping his paw in a plate of flour. Also if it is minor, just letting him walk on the grass/dirt will help it clog. Once it stops dripping, you can super glue it.
