dandruff

I have a 2 1/2 year old male rottie, and for the past 6 months he has had a terrible dandruff problem, his skin is so dry that it feels almost like a scab. I have tried changing his food to a different brand than what he was eating, I tried iodized salt, vegetable oil, (mind you that this is being put into his food), I've tried medicated shampoo, and baby shampoo. I'm stumped with this, if anyone has an answer that can be some sort of relief to my dog thaen please email me.

I add a tbl of safflower oil to the food of my dogs twice a day (that's how often I feed them). Have you checked w/ yr vet to be sure it really is dandruff that he has?

Spraying him with a solution of Listerine and water will kill the dandruff, however you need to find the cause as it will come back. Also, a tablespoon of unpasturized vinegar, from the health food store, does miraculous things for coat.

Our Rottie, Sabre, had a bad dandruff problem also. It would ball up and drive him crazy. We took him to our vet and he gave us a dandruff shampoo that works. Here is the trick though, when you wash your dog make sure that you rinse very very very well. Since our Rotties have all those folds etc it is easy for the soap to hide, causing the dandruff. We got a spayer to shower him down. Our vet suggested a tablespoon of Safflower oil in the food also to moisturize the skin. Ever since we started this we have had no dandruff problems. Also, the vinegar and listerine tricks did not work for Sabre only because he's allergic to both. Of course we found that out after we tried them. Hopefully you find something that works for your dog. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Eqyss' Micro Tek pet shampoo works great for my Rottie's dandruff problem.

I had the same problem and tried a coconut oil based shampoo (from the vet's). Instantly the damdruff problem disappeared. I also followed this with a supplement to his diet...sardines in oil!

His coat and skin are problem free!
