Innova Large Breed vs Innova Adult

I just recently found out that I can buy Innova in our town. My question is which food choice is better, the large breed at 350 cal/cup or the adult at 557 cal/cup? I understand the large breed formula has the glucosamine/chondriton added to it. But for dollar value, wouldn't the higher calorie last longer by having to feed less? And then I could just add the glucosamine supplements? My rottie is 6 years old and weighs around 120 lbs I think anyways. I just recently adopted him and haven't had him weighed yet. Any advice would be helpful.

large breed formulas are just marketing gimmics.

Continue to Feed your dog regular Innova and watch his weight and you'll be fine

Re: Innova Large Breed vs Innova Adult

I just switched from regular Innova to large breed. But mine was over a weight issue. I was down to feeding 2 cups of Innova a day and he still wasn't loosing weight. So the large breed had fewer calories and I wouldn't have to cut the amount down any more.

So if your not worried about something like that, I would agree that you should be able to feed your dog regular Innova and feed less of it than going with the large breed.

Re: Innova Large Breed vs Innova Adult

I was just asking my retailer about this. I usually purchase innova large breed puppy but he was all out. I asked what the difference was between the regular puppy food and the large breed puppy and he said the only difference was the size of the pellets. He said large breed was a gimmic. For some reason i still like to buy it though?

Re: Innova Large Breed vs Innova Adult

Large breed formulas usually contain filler to bring the caloric content down without changing the volume (it's not just the size of the pellets). You can just add filler yourself if you need to (canned pumpkin, green beans, whatever), and then you'll know what your dog is getting and won't be paying for filler. If you want your dog to have supplements like glucosamine, just buy them and add them yourself, that way you know what amount and what quality your dog is getting in some kind of reliable way. There's nothing wrong with feeding large breed formulas, but they are most definitely a gimmick.

Thank you for your replies to my question. I think I will exchange the bag I bought for the regular adult. If I think he's gaining too much weight then I may use the lower calorie food.

Also stores that sell Canidae www.canidae.com often sell Innova and the other good quality foods mentioned on this forum.

Sometimes the store locators are not kept up to date..so try the store locator on the Canidae website...and you will be surprised how many stores sell the "good food".
