Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

Right now, I feed my dogs Wellness food- Sweet Potatoe and Fish. I pay about $40 for a 30 pound bag. I have 3 large dogs at home (all about 100 pounds), so this gets quite expensive. I am just so confused on dog food. My vet told me that Wellness is good for them...and the dogs absolutely love it. But my trainer said that wellness is all a "gimmick", and recommended Kirkland. Kirkland is a CostCo brand that is only $16 for a 40-lb bag. Has anyone used Kirkland foods? The trainer recommended the Chicken and Rice formula.

Re: Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

I have fed both the chicken and the lamb and the dogs have liked and done well on them both. Good ingred list and great price.

There are several others who feed it as well.

Re: Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

Before you make that trip, do a little more diggin and educate your self about why the food is good or bad.
I remember looking at the Kirkland food and passing it by for a reason, just can't remember why right now. I think it has a lot of grains, not too sure.

You get what you pay for, and although the food may be cheaper, you may be making more trips to the vet for things like ear infections and such. For some reason, the cheaper foods seem to cause a lot more frequent ear infections.

Do more research before you switch, that is my 2 cents for what it is worth.

We have used the Lamb and Rice forumla for years. Our dogs have done extremely well on it with no allergy issues, etc. I've tried other brands over the years and have put up with the allergies, red tinges to the coats, but I have not experienced any of this with the Kirkland foods. I wean my new litters onto the adult formula with no problems.

Just be aware, that all dogs are different. Just because some do well on it does not meal all of them will tolerate it well.

Good luck in your try at it.

Re: Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

Why don't you try something like Timberwolf Organics - Black Forest. Its $43 for a 33# bag, but its quite dense at 529 cal/cup. SHould last you MUCH longer than Wellness - only has 400 cal/cup.

Timberwolf Organics looks like a MUCH better food, and good bang for your buck. NOt sure if you can easily get it in your area, their site says the dealer in DE ships UPS.

www.timberwolforganics.com

I tried to get this here in Canada, but the dealer in Toronto was no longer, must have gone out of business. I never did try the food, but I've heard some on here say it was really good.

My dogs have never had a problem on kirkland. I have 3 year old male, a two year old mixbreed, and a 5 month old pup.

We feed Kirkland Chicken and Rice and the dogs all do very well on it. Nice glossy coats, firm stools and the price is certainly right!

Re: Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

I always recommend the Lamb and Rice for people looking for a good, but inexpensive dog food. I can't remember why but looking at the labels I remember thinking the Lamb and Rice looked better than the Chicken and Rice, maybe for the reasons CanadianRotti seems to remember.

Re: Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

My dogs do better on the chicken and rice, but that is because the boxer has lamb intolerances. His ears stay clean now that we are on the chicken and rice.

Re: Anyone ever used Kirkland dog food?

My mom feeds it to her large dogs and has excellent results. Her greyhound has IBD but does well on Kirklands Chicken and Rice.

I couldn't find a website for Kirkland food...anyone else? I did go to Costco to check out the ingredients and it looked great. Abby seems to get ear infections pretty frequently, so my vet told me to stay away from lamb, so I chose the chicken and rice. So far so good! They all love it.
