Need correct weight gain

Hi everyone, I have never had an issue with my pets about diet, but it seems that Harley is growing really quick, and not gained the weight to catch up with his bone structure.
Right now he is on natural Balance, excellent food, and veggies.
Is there anything natural I can give him to help him gain some weight. I upped the amount of food. He is quite active now..
We have checked for parasites, no such thing, so it is just on diet....
Anyone have any ideas for me ???

Re: Need correct weight gain

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. He'll catch up eventually, and lean is better than overweight any day. Keep feeding him good food (Natural Balance is a tiny bit low in fat in my opinion, but it's a great food), and since you've already upped the amount, I would wait a bit and see how he does. Many dogs grow up and then out, so sometimes the food they take in is used to grow up and THEN to grow out, and normally you don't even need to make much of an adjustment unless the dog is really underweight.

Post Re: Need correct weight gain

By now your dog should have finished with all of his major growth...he's over a year. From now on he should just be filling in slowly. He may only gain another 5 lbs or so???

How much have you upped his food? I would think that is the easiest solution..give an extra cup of food.
You could also give him some canned food or cook up some ground beef and give him a cup of that.

Is he looking thin? or just lankey??

Gina

Re: Need correct weight gain

when I brushed him last night I felt every single vertibrae in his back, the brush actually hurt him. His is starting to become thin, not Lanky. I know lean is alot better, that is why I controlled the food, but his bones in his back are starting to show

Then just up his food more, as Gina suggests. Maybe add some canned food if you like, but he really will catch up.

And make sure his worming is up to date, could be a reason he is not gaining.

From what you are saying, I would increase him a cup a day and then cut back after he fills in a bit more.

I have had him checked for parasites, he is all clear. it looked as if overnight his bones grew, and weight has not, so it shows alot more now
