| How much to feed (innova) ??? The back of the bag for Innova Large Puppy says about 6 cups. Is this a per day serving or per meal ? I hope its per day. Voine is 5 months old (well almost tomorrow he would be ) should weigh close to 43lbs now I was feeding my puppy Candiae but now I want to switch foods to give him some variety. I was thinking about getting Evo but the salesperson told me I should wait until hes 12 months old. IS this true ? |

My pup just turned 5months last friday and was 57lbs... I have been feeding canidea since the day I got him at 8 weeks... I just started feeding him a mix of canidea and Evo... I go by the canidea measurements though... He gets 4 cups of food per day ( 3 cups canidea/ 1 cup EVO) I have had him on this for about 2 weeks now and his stools were normal after two days... However, I am watching his weight gain to see how fast he grows, if he grows to fast then I'm going to cut bak the EVO... I plan on feeding him this mix until the bag of EVO is out, because I too was told that I should wait until he is older before I go strictly EVO... |

| my puppy Denver just turned 5 months and he eats innova. He only has 3 cups a day like the bag says.He is about 57 lbs.Just right the vet says.Alot of people have told me that feeding large breed dog food is not good because Rottweilers are not a large breed per say.How much does your dog weigh. They should only be gaining 10 lbs (approx) a month. What you are feeding sounds like way too much. I was also to to wait till hes older for EVO. |

The Innova Large Breed Puppy has way less calories per cup ( I think around 380?) then the Adult Innova which has 520 calories per cup. Instead of feeding the Large Breed Puppy, you could be feeding the Adult and feed alot less. I raised my pup on a rotation of Canidae and Adult Innova. He grew slow and steady, about 10 lbs a month. I think alot depends on the pup...on the amounts of food it needs. If the pup is going through a growth spurt they need more, if they are very active puppies they need more...if they have a fast metabolism they may need more. I don't think I have ever fed more then 4 cups total of food when Baxter was younger. He is now 18 months old and 106 lbs and eats only 2 cups of Adult Innova per day, plus a few tablespoons of good table scraps added. Try to keep your pup lean. A lean pup has a much better chance of growing up healthy and strong. It's true about the EVO, the company does not recommend it for large breed puppies (anything that will grow over 50lbs)...the calcium / phosphorus ratio is too high for a large breed pup. It's a great food...but you should really wait till the pup is older. Gina

| The bag says 6 cups a day unless I read it wrong.. EDIT: I did read it wrong, its 4 cups on the bag I was feeding him Candiae - 3 cups a day. (i know i spelled it wrong) I got Voine at 8 weeks - he was 12 pounds, I went to the Vet about a month ago and he was 32 pounds. So im guessing he should be about 40 now since I been feeding him the same. Hes done with all his shots, just rabies left which he is going to get soon. Im going to wait until hes 5 1/2 weeks for it, sine theres mixed views on the right time. I seen some people say 5 months and 6 months. I got a small bag on Innova Large breed for puppies but im going to switch to the Adult bag once this one is done since it seems better. |

| "Large Breed" foods are a bit of a scam - they generally just add more filler to reduce the calorie content per cup. I don't like paying for more filler than I have to, and I don't like feeding my dog filler unless I have to (in which case I'll add it myself in the form of pumpkin or green beans). If I want my dog to have supplements like Glucosamine (which is in some large breed foods), I'll add it myself. I just don't see any good reason to buy or feed a large breed food, and I'm kind of disappointed that Innova has jumped on this bandwagon.
