YOUR ROTTS COAT vs OTHERS ??

Did your Rott grow into his/her coat ??? or has it always been the same... I ask because Me and a friend of mines both purchased Rott pups from the same breeder. He has female/ I have a male. Her coat is very shiny, and short haired... MY Rotts coat is shiny also but the hair on his back is VERY wavey... almost looks like they didn't even come from the same litter. Also, his haoir seems to be longer than hers is.. I love it actually, its just the thick wavey portion on his back rear that worries me.. As pups, his coat was more "fury" than what I thought a Rotts coat should be... Has anyone experienced this.. Is this a possible skin problem or irritation. I feed Canidea and I also suplpiment with an Omega-3 Fatty liquid that I put in his food 2 to 3 times a week...

I noticed a thread in GENERAL INFO named "LENGTH OF HAIR"..

It answered most of the questions I had... Except for the wavey hair part!!!

About three weeks ago, I noticed Mook's hair on his back seemed kind of wavy, but today it's fine. This might be a dumb question, but, any chance it could have dried like that after a bath?

I think some rotties are just like that my male had a lot of hair when he was a pup he looked like a little bear. Then the first rottie i had she had wavy coat on her back when she was a pup but i think it just depends on the dog. But as they get older they will change.

Thats what I thought it MAY have been but we only bath him once every 3 to 4 weeks... When I comb him, this particlur area always yields a dry white residue on the comb... almost like the skin is very dry in this particular area.

Happy had a wave on his back for a long time..then summer came and he blew coat and the wave left.

My ex's rottie Omen always has a wave to his coat.

The "wave" part always seemed thicker and to me had a bit more dander in it..which may be why you are seeing more 'white stuff' when you comb that area. You might want to try a more gentle shampoo, bathe less often and comb more if your seeing a ton of dander.

My friend I got Lucy from ended up with another Rottie from the same BYB. My Lucy is a beautiful girl, regular coat. Her boy is a nice looking dog too but he's got longer hair! Really interesting, and she loves him just the same. It's long and wavy, looks pretty cool.

Maybe one of the breeders will chime in and answer this. I'm pretty sure it is considered a 'flaw' and more common with BYB. My Cedar has wavey hair....he's a rescue....I like it.

As to the coat being a flaw, a wavy coat is considered a fault and it depends on how long the coat is. Occasionally you can get a long coated Rottweiler which is a dq for showing, but they are usually the most loveable and sweetest dogs. If the coat isn't excessively long the wave may go away with time. I had a bitch with a wavy coat until she was about 2 1/2 then it straightened out.

Could be soap residue from the frequent bathing. Can I ask why he is bathed so often??

Ben has had, I think, 5 baths in the 5 years he has been here with me. Baron has been here a year - got a bath the day he came to us (cuz he stank like the shelter!) and got a bath about a month ago...probably won't get another one until next year unless he tsarts to smell really 'doggy'.

Both dogs smell very clean - they are brushed at least 3 times a week which keeps dirt outta the coats. I also use a product called Minute Groom - got it on QVC - works like a charm - smells like Froot Loops cereal! Here's a link to it ---> Minute Groom - whoa - price went down - gonna hafta order more!
