Unhappy Tip about Meat Supplier for People Who Feed Raw

Ryan & I discovered something pretty cool today. The place where we used to get the majority of Julius' meat, was taken over by another company. They raised the prices on the beef heart & the service just wasn't the same. They screwed up our orders three times in a row & I was pretty ticked off.

So we contacted a poultry supplier about twenty minutes away from us (actually where Patty lives). We were just checking out how much it would be to buy directly from them, since that is the supplier that the store we were buying from was using.

They apparently supply chicken for the KFC in our town & so are constantly doing shipments to them. They have this deal worked out with KFC, where other people can order through the supplier & then pick up their meat at KFC. So we won't have to travel the twenty minutes to & from and we'll save on gas.

We were paying:

beef heart: before-- $1.00 per pound now-- 50 cents per pound
chicken quarters: before-- 29 cents per pound now--- 24 cents per pound
necks/backs: before-- 39 cents per pound now--- 30 cents per pound

It all adds up. From the way that the woman at the Poultry company was talking it sounded like a lot of the KFC's participate in this. For those of you feeding raw to your dogs, it wouldn't hurt to call up your local KFC & see who their chicken supplier is. The person at KFC said that they have enormous freezers & they do this sort of thing all the time.

Just thought I would share!

I was surprised as well, Patty! When Ryan called today the guy said that they do it all of the time for people & that it wasn't a big deal. There is another restaurant in town as well that does the same thing. I was happily surprised. It will save us quite a bit of money.
