Pedigree Dry, Mix Dry with can, or just can

I have a couple questions, I feed my dog, pedigree adult dry dog food and was wondering is it good to mix it with canned dog food also, or just feed him pure canned dog food, or just keep feeding the dry, pedigree, is not the best dog food but it suits alright, I am only 16 so when I get to working I will start buying the eukanuba, somebody get back to me.

ok I will take that as good advice, so my best bet would be just to stick to the pedigree dry dog food, until I start him on the eukanuba

Just feeding the dry kibble also helps "brush" their teeth a little when they chew it...canned fods ARE mostly water....some contain sugar...are more expensive....but I can't see a problem if you want to mix a forkful in for some extra YUMMMMM-flavour!(or as a treat once in a while...)Good for you for taking such an interest in your dog's health and well-being at the age of 16.

hello,
if he eats the dry fine and is doing good, great.
careful mixing in can food if not used to eating other stuff...it might upset his stomach.
if going to change diet, mix it in slowly a bit at a time until he's on new diet.
good luck!

I'm going to disagree here. Canned food (assuming it's decent quality), contains more meat than dry food does, often has no grains or filler at all (the "Neura" brand by the same company that makes Wellness is 95% meat) - it has plenty of nutritional value, it's just that you have to spend more money to feed canned. Kibble has not been shown to help significantly with keeping the teeth clean, even though this statement gets passed around all the time (including by vets). Good information here.

Re: Pedigree Dry, Mix Dry with can, or just can

You'll find with a higher quality food, such as Canidae or Innova, Wellness or the millions of theother premium or high quality foods, that you'll have to feed LESS food in order to get your dog the nutrition he needs, and you'll have less poop to clean up - ALOT less!

While more expensive in initial purchase- you'll buy food less often and it'll last longer.

There are far better foods than Pedigree or Eukanuba.

In terms of canned versus dry or one or the other. I have a friend who feeds only canned food to his Pug...the dog is four years old and his teeth are falling out of his head and the dog has the WORST gas I've EVER smelled coming out of anything!

I agree that there are some canned foods available that are better than others...personally I can't stand the smell of canned food - any canned food. YUCK! Must be why the dogs like it so much!

Try buying Benefil. (SP) Our dog loves it. its cheaper and it has more protein in it then some of the IAMs selection out there. At least the ones we have on this small island.

yea I noticed that when I feed my rottweiler canned food for a treat he gets bad gas, for now I will keep feeding him pedigree, he must get enough nutrition out of it cause he is very energetic, he can keep up with the 9-12 month old dogs, but later on when I start work, I will start feeding him a better quality food, I got my mind set on eukanuba I have been reading alot of information on it, and eukanuba feeds much smaller cups then pedigree, so you are right it is less poop to pick up, but my rottweiler doesn't really poop to much, it doesn't bother me I just pick it right back up.

I will do some more research on the food, I am sticking with pedigree, my rottweiler has been eating it since he was a pup, he ate the puppy pedigree, and now the adult, but like I said I will switch to a premium food when I can.

Please don't feed your dog raw hide. The pieces can swell in his stomach and ultimately kill him. Marrow bones, soup bones (uncooked) are fine. You sound like a responsible young person and you are to be commended for trying to do the best for your dog. Please research the kibble you are feeding and your proposed choice for an upgrade. Read the ingredients and check on the internet for some comparisons. You may be very suprised at what you discover.

Good luck with your friend.
