| Marrow Bones I am new to the wonderful world of marrow bones - I decided to buy one for Brandy to see how she would make out. Just curious - should I be worried about my carpet? I know when I give her a greenie she bee-lines it to her favourite spot and mows down. With the greenies I didn't get any staining. As this is a bone I wasn't really sure if I would get a grease stain? Please enlighten me. Although Brandy loves to see me workin on all 4's.... all the better to lick mom's face , I'd rather not. Thanks!!!

| Re: Marrow Bones I only give marrow bones outside or in crates because yes, marrow will leave a grease stain. |

| Re: Marrow Bones I've never seen any stains with marrow bones but I always have them chew them either outside or inside on a blanket due to the potential for bacterial spread. And no, I'm not a germ freak. The 5-second rule works in my house - except for rinsing off dog hair. |

| Re: Marrow Bones Julius has his mat that he is allowed to chew marrow bones on. We pick it up & place it in the kitchen. He knows that if he wants to chew on his bone, it must be done on his mat. This is typically done in the winter time. In the warmer weather, or even now when it's a bit cooler & we're home, we just toss the bone outside in his fenced in yard & let him go to town. ![]() Brooke

When our dogs get marrow bones, they go outside into the fenced yard, or into a crate, or they lie down on a big blanket put down on the floor specificaly for them to lie on. You don't want fat, meat, and blood smeared into your rugs... |

| Re: Marrow Bones With multiple dogs in the house, all dogs are separated (crated) when given a marrow bone. Too much temptation for one dog to try to get all of the bones, and they are VERY HIGH VALUE items and I have had to separate dogs over much less trivial items than a marrow bone so I'll never risk it. Also, make sure all kids know to leave the dog ALONE when they have a bone as some dogs, even the most well trained and loving, can become little (or big) demon dogs when they have a big fat juicy marrow bone. I always crate the dogs for everyones safety. |

| Re: Marrow Bones Diesel also uses his mat when chewing on the bones, but when he sneaks off onto the carpet it never leaves stains that I can't get out, just messy.

| I am also new to the marrow-bone idea....Toby has his own mat to eat his treats on, so I'm not worried about the stain...however, just how fattening ARE these things? How many would you feed in a week? What if they crack them in half and swallow them?Do they cause bad gas??Is it worth it? Enquiring mind wants to know..... |

As for gas... I am the wrong person to ask, I think it is safe to say that Brandy is working for the government testing out a new deadly form of bio warefare - eau de rottie butt

Depending on the size (they come packaged in different sizes ranging from the size of a large deck of cards to twice that size), you can feed one once a week, three times a week, and in the case of a dog healing from surgery, once a day. I gave my dog a raw bone once a day when he was recovering from surgery. It never gave him gas and he never broke one in half but rather chewed away at it until the edges became round and soft, and there was nothing left. Definitely worth it in my book. Added bonus....nice WHITE teeth. |

| Re: Marrow Bones I let my 2 chew the bones in the living room on quilts that I purchased specially for them. Every 3 days quilts go into washer with a bit of bleach and new ones get laid down. I rotate 3 different sets so we always have clean quilts. |

| Re: Marrow Bones Mine get marrow bones once a week, unless someone is injured or Akasha is in heat, then they get them more often. They get their bones in their crates at first. After they have chewed them down and there is no meat or marrow left I let them bring them out of the crate and into the living room. By this time the bones are not valued as highly and there are no problems with any of the other dogs around their bones. We usually have at least 4 partially chewed bones that the dogs chew on. I like having at least one extra out there since Akasha likes to "trade" bones with everyone
