| Shedding: Huge Improvement I switched Cyrus from Solid Gold (which I realize is a very good food) to Canidae in mid-July. The first thing I noticed is he eats with much more gusto and his finicky periods are over. I also noticed a marked improvement in his shedding. I noticed much less fur loss over the last few brushing sessions. As a novice dog owner, my question is: Is the decrease because fall/winter is approaching? Or could it be the food? Whatever it is I am happy!

| Re: Shedding: Huge Improvement We've noticed a huge improvement in both the dog's coats sinced we switched from Nutro to Canidae. I also haven't had to give Claus glucosamine supplements because it's also in the food. My dogs do well on Canidae.

| Re: Shedding: Huge Improvement Denise, while Solid Gold is a respected food, it is very heavy in grains. Canidae probably has twice the amount of meat, and I would attribute the decrease in shedding to that factor.

| Re: Shedding: Huge Improvement I mix a half of can of "wet" in with Tabitha's kibble. I had been using the Nutro large breed puppy for both. It was time for me to buy new canned yesterday and sought out and found Canidae canned. My question here is: Is it ok to feed her the Candae wet while still feeding the Nutro dry until her dry is a little more depleted and I can begin to mix in the Canidae dry to move her over to? Also, Canidae did not seem to come in "puppy" that I could find. Do they make one, and is it that important to have her on puppy. The label indicates it is for "all" stages of life. db |

| Re: Shedding: Huge Improvement You can mix those two foods, no problem. Just remember that Canidae canned isn't a complete diet (check the can), so kibble must make up a majority of the diet. I would not feed puppy food - there's no real reason to, especially not with a larger breed (my dog's small and I didn't feed puppy food), you just follow the puppy feeding guidelines on the Canidae bag (not in terms of cup amount, that you will have to adjust depending on how your dog's weight is, but in terms of having an idea of how much more to feed than you'd feed an adult dog). Canidae does not make a puppy diet, their food is all life stages (which is just another way of saying "there's no need to feed puppy food", since there's nothing special about "all life stages" foods as compared to foods that have puppy and adult formulas, like Innova - my pup also ate Innova adult).

| Re: Shedding: Huge Improvement Thank you Spidey, I thought that was the case and had remembered reading it here somewhere and of course just found the links on the Nutro vs. Bil Jac thread. Thanks again! db |
