Beef to rice ratio

Elmo is on a bland diet of Beef and Rice because of his intestnal issues...he is getting better and after a week on the diet was able to start incorporating his kibble back in, but I rushed it...so going back to just beef and rice for a day or two...

Here is my question...what ratio of beef to rice should I be using???? I use about 2 pounds of lean ground beef to 3 (uncooked) cups of rice. Is this too much rice? It kind of seems that way.

Thanks!
Beth (and a very hungry Elmo because I am taking too long making his rice and beef....it is cooling in the freezer right now! poor puppers!)

Re: Beef to rice ratio

I always use more rice then beef, around 1lb of beef per 3 cups of uncooked rice.

Re: Beef to rice ratio

I use 1 c. protein (fat drained)/4 c. carb ratio starting out (cooked measure) and depending on tolerance, increase protein ratio to 1 c. protein/3 c. carb when it is apparent the dog can tolerate the protein. The rice is very easily digested, that's why it's used, and gives the dog an energy source while still allowing the intestines to rest a bit by limiting exposure to proteins that an inflamed intestine may react adversely to.
