Nutro vs Bil Jac

We just came from Petsmart there was a rep from Nutro promoting their product, we have an 8 month old rottie currently on Bil Jac puppy. She was trying to sell us Nutro Large Breed Puppy. I was wondering is Nutro that much better then Bil Jac?

Any suggesting would be great, I understand not to change her food cold turkey but to gradually introduce an new food.

Thanks, M

Re: Nutro vs Bil Jac

Nutro is better than Bil Jac, it has better ingredients. It's still not a super-premium, but it's better than Bil-Jac, in my opinion.

Re: Nutro vs Bil Jac

I love the results that I am getting from Nutro Natural High Energy.

Our dogs are in training for Schutzhund and also show when we feel like it. The Nutro has them looking great, and provides them with plenty of energy to get things done on the Schutzhund field.

Nutro has a $$ back guarantee, try it, give it time to work and then if you don't like it take the unused portion back to the store and get your money back. I bet that won't happen though. Also Nutro has a frequent buyer program. Buy 10 get 1 free.

Good Luck.

Depends on where you get it from. When we fed Brodie and the cats Nutro we bought it from PetsMart. They were not part of the frequent buyer program for some reason. But, when we started to buy it from Pet Supplies Plus up in Wisconsin we were able to use the frequent buyer program through them. So, make sure you ask the place you are buying from if they are involved with the program.

I dont' use kibble, but if I did, and back WHEN I did, I would not use puppy food on a Rottweiler.

I feel that adult food, esp a premium brand, has plenty of nutrition for a puppy, and I would not want to encourage fast growth as some puppy formulations might.

Nutro is way better than Bil Jac IMO. Bil Jac has chemical persevatives in it. You can compare ingredients here: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php...&id4=&x=40&y=7

Just click on the ingredient name to get a description of that ingredient.

Re: Nutro vs Bil Jac

Thanks guys for the feed back (no pun intended ). We are 1/2 thru the Bil-Jac so I think this weekend we will buy the Nutro and start mixing it.

I do have one anther question, should me keep her on puppy or use an adult formula. As I stated before, she is 8 months old and she has alot of energy, she runs all over the house chasing the cats up and down the stairs and gets alot of exercise outside.

Thanks again, and did I mention I love this forum everyone is great and is really helping us 2nd time around rott owners out.

Again, I would not feed ANY large breed puppy a puppy food formula. I would use adult only.

Re: Nutro vs Bil Jac

I feed Bil Jac and prefer it to the super premiums I have tried. Good palatibility, good coats, no loose stools or gas problems. If you look at that comparison chart, of the first four ingredients for Nutro only one is a chicken product, the rests are grains. For Bil-Jac the opposite is true. The BHT, BHA preservatives don't bother me. After getting two seperate brands of "naturally" preserved and rancid dog food, I prefer a food that reliably stabilizes the fat content.

Re: Nutro vs Bil Jac

Don't feed your pup puppy food. It is better for him/her to be on a high quality adult food than a puppy food, and Nutro large breed puppy is IMHO, not great food.

If you can find Canidae in your area, it is a better food than either Bil-Jac or Nutro IMHO. I used to work for Nutro and won't feed it anymore. Both Reno and Max used to eat Nutro, and I always had problems with them throwing up, usually in the early AM. Since switching to Canidae, no more vomiting. Luna's been on Canidae since she arrived, and she has never thrown up. Not once. Canidae has no artificial preservatives, uses human grade ingredients, and has 4 different meat protein sources in the top 7 ingredients. It is priced similarly to Nutro. Check out the manufacturer's website to locate a supplier in your area.
