Nail clipping

Do you think this is a good idea? Roxie is my first dog so im not sure how to trim her nails but i know its important. I was thinking i could take her 2 a groomer to cut them and that way she could show me how to? Then i could take over and do it the rest of the time. I guess im scared i cut down to far, i cant deal with anymore Roxie blood!

I think that is a fine idea. Your vets will almost certainly do it for you as well.

Re: Nail clipping

You can get clippers with a guard on them to help, it won't completely prevent bleeders - you still need to have an idea of wher the quick(vein) is, but once you get to know the clippers and the length to cut at , you just put the nail up to the guard and cut.

The part of the nail that needs cutting off looks "hollow" along the bottom... It's hard to describe, but a groomer or vet could easily show you. It's best not to have any traumatic nail cutting incedents during puppyhood, or you may have trouble in the future.

Dozer's pretty good with his nails being cut, and doesn't fuss much anymore. I also try to do it when he's tired, such as right after a long walk or a play session.

Re: Nail clipping

If you can get someone to show you how to do it at your home it is much easier on the dog rather than taking her someplace and having strangers do it.
