Dog Shampoo for Black Coat

I am wondering if there is any benefit to those special dog shampoos that are for black-coated dogs. Is this just some kind of marketing gimic, or do they actually enhance a black coat?

Those of you who show your dogs, I would love to know if you find a special benefit from any particular brand of dog shampoo (eg. shinier coat). Any brands you guys swear by?

I know that a shiny coat starts on the inside, with proper nutrition & supplements. I'm covered on that front. I am basically looking for a recommendation for the BEST dog shampoo to use as the finishing touch in show preparation.

I use a kind that has a black pearl in it.. I cant remember the name, but it smells like grapes.. I think it gives a deeper darker shine..

Re: Dog Shampoo for Black Coat

I tried the black pearl stuff when I noticed that Legend seemed to be fading a bit from the chlorine in the pool...I couldn't tell much difference. I used to use Tresemme (yep, the people kind) Vitamin C formula - and I'm still super impressed by it...however, I've since found a medicated shampoo called Zymox that I just love!!! I tried it when Legend had a couple hot spots on him and it not only cleared those right up, it made him SO shiny and he smells like fresh laundry! :) I called the company to make sure it was safe and gentle enough to use as his regular shampoo and it is...so that's my new favorite - with Tresemme as a back up and close second! :)

Do a search on "Listerine."

Someone here--can't remember who--puts a mixture of Listerine and water on the dog, wetting the coat, before showing. The dog's coat just shines.
