Turkey necks?

Can I give the dogs turkey necks and the other organs that come out of a turkey before you cook it?

Re: Turkey necks?

Ok, so I've read some and just take my hammer and pound away?

What about frozen turkey necks, would that be better?

Or, pound turkey necks and feed a little bit at a time?

Or, throw turkey necks away?

And, the gibblets are ok for them right?

Re: Turkey necks?

Personally I do not like to feed turkey bones; but I know many people do. If you do, I'd chop them into small pieces & don't give too much at first.
Gizzards are way fine!

Re: Turkey necks?

I think that it depends on the dog. Storm for what ever reason cannot handle turkey, he vomits it up. Dakota is fine with it. I've read that turket has something (tanzine?) in it that alot of dogs can't handle.

Re: Turkey necks?

Basically a lot of people do not feed turkey because even raw the bones apparently are VERY brittle & break off into scary pieces. I have read this in Carina's book & many other raw books/websites. So no turkey for Julius. Occasionally he'll get some ground turkey thrown into his meals for a bit of variety....

:)

Re: Turkey necks?

If you have a meat grinder you could grind them up and feed them that way. Otherwise I'd toss them out. There are just too many other things you could feed and not have to worry about it.

Re: Turkey necks?

Almost every time I've fed my dogs turkey bones, they've puked up nasty shards. My dogs no longer get unground turkey anything.

Re: Turkey necks?

Ok! Thanks for the input. I had desided I didn't want to mess with it and didn't want to hurt my dogs, but they will get the gibblets :D
