| Raw Turkey Question... Okay, so Amy's thread about turkey skin got me thinking... We won't be feeding Julius raw turkey unless we can get our hands on some turkey necks. I've read SO many places where turkeys grow at a quicker rate & the bones are rather brittle even raw. I know that it's been mentioned many times on the boards. Now....if we do feed turkey necks is Trytophan something to worry about or does this occur only in cooked turkey? Someone in the other thread said that it large doses (which Julius wouldn't have....) that it can be bad for the dogs. I'm just curious to know if anyone knows if it would be in RAW turkey. :) Brooke

| Urban myth According to info gathered by Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/turkey.htm), chicken actually contains more Trytophan than turkey. I guess we need to come up with a better excuse for the Thanksgiving drowsies.;)

| Tryptophan always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry fed his girlfriend all sorts of foods that contained tryptophan so he could get her to fall asleep so he could play with her toys! :D The only thing they say about tryptophan in pets is that high levels can cause depression. |
