Skunk breath??

My pup is 5.5 months old and suddenly has developed this terrible skunk breath. Haven't changed any of his dietary things like food, treats, etc.. I was told he is too young to start brushing his teeth as he is yet to get his adult canines and his gums might be too sore yet to start brushing. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem yet either? Is this an age thing for him? I know when he was really young at 9 weeks the vet told us his terrible breath back then was just average young puppy breath and that it would go away, and it did. But it's back with a venegance! My poor dog stinks up my car when he's in there panting for five minutes. Any ideas anyone?

Sometimes a puppes' breath will smell while they are teething because of dried blood in the sockets, etc. Have you looked in his mouth to make sure there isn't an impacted tooth, or something?

(I love the early puppy-breath, though!)
