Help needed for weight gain

Hi all,

I adopted Brock almost two months ago. He's a great looking dog except a bit on the thin side. It looks like he wasn't feed right. While at the rescue he put on a little wieght but he still weighs about 88 lbs. I was told by the woman who runs the rescue, as well as our Vet, that he should be around 95 lbs or so... a couple more maybe. I'm concerned he's not getting what he needs to gain weight. I know he shouldn't gain weight fast so I'm not looking for that but something more productive that feeding him more food... seems he gains a little and just leaves bigger piles for me to clean

I was told I should give him puppy food. Is this healthy for an adult dog? Should I just increase his regular food intake

Brocks is a neutered 3 1/2 years old male. He was neutered a few months ago. He seems to go from playing with his toys to resting. We are currently taking an obedience course... he's doing great! :D
So I work him 1 hour a day on our drills and then we go for a walk. We usually walk twice a day (morning and evening). I'm currently feeding him twice a day. 2 1/4 cups of California Natural Chicken Meal & Rice. BTW, He has NO trouble eating his daily servings of food. :)

Any thoughts we be helpfull

Thanks,

Victor & Brock

Yes, try feeding him quality puppy food or food formulated for high activity dogs. He might be able to more easily digest the food if you break it up into three meals a day, especially since it sounds as though he's getting far more food that he was before. Has he also been thoroughly examined by your vet, checked for parasites, etc.? If not, please have that done.

Gaining weight slowly but steadily is more healthy for him. His body needs to work itself up to handling the heavier weight.
