first rottweiler and living in germany

I am getting my first rottweiler this week and I don't know what type of dog food to buy him. I currently am stationed in Germany so I dont think I can buy him all of the different dog foods except what is sold in the grocery store. Can anyone tell me what is a good dog food that I can buy until I come back to the states?

Any helpful hints and tips in raising my new rottie will be greatly appreciated also.

If you are buying the pup from a German breeder, ask them what they recommend.

ahh, well that suggestion was not the best. OK, how about contacting your local ADRK training club and asking them? That way you will get advice from someone familiar with the food available in your area.

I *think* Canidae is available in Germany. It's popular here at rott.net. Email the company and ask them.

You never did say, where in Germany you are located? Are you living on base or on the economy? It's doubtful that you will find a good quality food sold at the PX. Let us know how you make out with the local clubs.

Royal Canin is available in Germany. Their Natural Blend is terrific.

Hehehe. If I could read German, I could probably tell you. lol. Try their web site: www.royalcanin.com. They have a German version, but it's in German. Looks like they've got a plant and/or offices in Koln.

Today I went to see what kind of dog food I could find for my rottweiler. I found Eukanuba which I have read is not good for dogs but they also had Science Diet. Can anyone tell me what they know Science Diet?

I know enough to stay away from it. Of the 2 you mention, I would choose Peukanuba. God! I can't believe I said that. Do you have a fridge where you can store hamberger and other meats? I would seriously look into trying to find an alternative to those two foods.

Thanks Rott-Wiley, I don't know anything. I am so glad I found this website. I have a deep freezer do u think I should give my puppy meat instead?I was really trying not to go on the economy but tomorrow or this weekend I will have to find a pet store. I am sure they will have good quality dog foods. Thank you for responding so quickly.
