Just one other thing, and this is only slightly off topic. In addition to veggies I also feed fat free natural yogurt 3 days a week, fat free cottage cheese twice a week and raw eggs twice a week.

Thanks guys ... glad to share my veggie info!!

It is a compilation of much research ... so I guess you could say I am the author - I put it all together along with my thoughts for another list a while ago.

As for mixing veggies with kibble you just have to make sure you don't unbalance the ca : ph ratio too much. Certain veggies are high in calcium other higher in phosphate - kibble comes with a pretty balanced ca : ph ratio so as long as you keep that in mind you can add veggies no problem.

Cheers,
Lorrie

Raw Veggies/BARF Diet

Maybe you already know, but I didn't see the actual name of this diet anywhere in the postings. It's called the BARF (Bones and raw food) Diet. If you will do a search, you will find a multitude of info, along with books that can be ordered. Dr. Billinghurst wrote a book, "Give Your Dog a Bone" that answers all your questions, including what vitamins you should give. I highly recomend it.
We have had our dogs on this for nearly 3 years. Our 4 yr old rottie girl has severe allergies to dog food and atrophy of the spine (A birth defect). Putting her onto this has helped tremendously. The spine specialist predicted she would only walk another year. Well, nearly two years later, she hasn't digressed a bit. With the addition of a bone and joint formula, she has even gotten better. Another huge plus is the freshest breath and sparkly teeth.
It's never too late to put your dog on this diet. When my cocker was 12 yrs old and in terrible health with pancreas problems, we put her on this diet, too. The change was dramatic. Her last 2 1/2 yrs were pain free. She only had to go to the vet for vaccinations, instead of every other month or so for medicine.
It does take some commitment to do this diet, but we have found you can make a batch of food up every week or so and it keeps well.
Lot's of luck!

Complicate my life why don't you? Geez, I thought I was being sooooo good in cooking up frozen green beans and adding them to the food (Canadae). Any they looooooooove the green beans - now I have to juicer them too!!!!!!!!!!! Oye Vey. I'll have to give uo my day job just to have time to prepare meals for the dogs. This truly is a wealth of info. Organized, straight forward and totally understandable - thanks.

Once you get into a routine with them it doesn't take a lot of time. I run the juicer once or twice a week and on those days I feed her the fresh stuff and freeze the rest in ice cube trays. I feed twice a day and include two cubes of veggies in each meal.

"BARF" is just one term for this way of feeding - since Dr B copyrighted the name a few years ago, many people have stopped using it.

Yes (although they are cooked) but check for onions in the ingredients. Onions should not be fed to dogs.
